The warning never listed the word "Hot". The team read it that way but that's their mistake. I kind of expected Kurama to pick up on it the first time I watched it but I guess it wasnt in the script lol.

To be fair, I'm shocked it's as good as it is. Translating a word game within a limited frame?! It seems a miracle that they could figure out something to take its place.

This word game was the first challenge in Anime I ever saw and it's still one of my favourites to this day. Only one complaint, the Dubbing crew clearly goofed on the translation. (I'm not a Sub elitist, I'm just saying this is one instance where the Dub was not superior or equal). In the original Kuwabara asks for a "shot" of something or other. So instead of it being bullshit about an anagram it's saying a word with the same letters that sounds similar and has the same three letters as hot in a row. Sure it still is kind of cheap on his part but the logic is more sound than the explanation in this episode.

This is one of my favorite non-fights. Kurama and Nerd Boy using wits rather than strength. It's kind of like a Japanese bout between Littlefinger and Varys. If you have not watched GOT, I recommend it.

the japanese alphabet is different from ours, it starts with the basic vowels and and progresses to 2-3 letter words. for example: thank you is arigato in japanese and it's broken up as a-ri-ga-to.

Yeah, that’s always been one of my favorite Kurama lines as well. It shows he was content to beat Kaito at his own game, but also wouldn’t have hesitated to avenge his friends should the need arise. He’s always so passive and a little detached it’s nice to see how much he cares about them. One of Kurama’s best little moments.
