Zuko won outright. Had Azula not targeted katara, Zuko would’ve redirected it back at Azula. Which would’ve ended the fight. Iroh invented the ability to redirect it and he wouldve never taught Azula or ozai as he likely created it in part as a defense against them specifically. So the only 3 able to do so are himself, Zuko, and aang. Azula would’ve been done

Well idk the details but I hope they wouldn’t have retconned too much. The live action was the biggest piece of garbage since dragonball evolution so I don’t think their season 4 plans could’ve posssibly beeen worse than that movie

Both Zuko and Azula have two of the best character arcs of all time. And the way they interplay is phenomenal! I've always loved Azula's descent into insanity from the betrayal of Zuko, and then Mai and Ty Lee. As well as the resolution in the next episode.

I'm always curious but who do y'all think actually won the agni kai for me it's zuko cause the moment azula targeted someone not part of the agni kai she admitted defeat. But then again pretty sure she wouldn't have lost if she wasn't losing all her marbles

I just realized that Aang had zero problems killing that giant wasp bird thing in the desert after it tried to make off with Momo, but he can't kill Ozai...I thought the life of even the tiniest spiderfly caught in it's own web was precious???

I don't think I'll ever get tired of seeing Zukko and Azula's fight. The colors, the muted audio, the sheer size and power of the fire being used (ironically) gives me chills. It's easily my second favorite fight in the entire series (next episode being number 1).

The level of nostalgia this has for me is insane, I still remember the "countdown to the comet" they had in the corner of nicktoons for like a week leading up to this, the thing I love about this finale is that everyone gets something meaningful to do. Like no one is really left to the side or shoehorned in, the whole finales set up with enough moving parts to justify everyone mattering. I totally get aangs resistance if he was killing an already defeated firelord, but aang is demonstrably cool with fog of war kills, he shot down that airship, which was full of people, some of which definitely got crushed, but that's kinda what I like about it, it's not a consistent stance. He's a kid and nowhere near mature enough to be this important in world politics, but he doesn't have a choice.

Comet is there, so firebender vs any other kind of bender is an unfair fight. Katara can go ahead and fight Azula but she definitly cant match her quantitywise so thats a problem (I know youve already seen what happens). Actually Aang could have redirected the lightning back at Ozai killing him. He heisitated and sent it elsewhere so he did have a choice there but couldnt do it. Ozai was genuinly scared there and afterwards he stopped using lightning because it would be too dangerous for him

"She's gonna be Lord of Nothing!" That's one major part of what made her snap. She's lost all her support that she thought she could rely on, she's had a ton of pillars below her collapse as though they were salt. It was all alright, though, as long as she got to stand in the Fire Nation's glory, and eventually become Fire Lord. That was her dream. A dream that her father pissed all over. He bans her from the actual fight, and then gives her the title of Fire Lord - what she's always wanted. And then he immediately turns around and makes that title worthless by declaring himself the Phoenix King. Sure, she's Fire Lord, but she has no power. The true ruler will still be Ozai. I also LOVE the music for the actual Agni Kai, simply because it underscores the true weight of the moment. Many would have gone for triumphant battle-hype music, the crazy villain is finally going down! Except, she's just a very sick teenage girl, who's lost all stability in her life, fighting her own brother to the death because she doesn't know what else to do. Abandoned by the rest of her family. It's not a triumphant, hype moment - it's a tragic one, and the score illustrates that beautifully.

I like fire but mostly cause its an agressive power i like intensity in my animations. I originally didn't like air cause it was always so passive in a fight but all that changed in korra season 3( i wont say much in case curtis decides to watch korra some time) but that guy showed me how agressive and intense air can be.

At times you can hear a bit of his Joker voice slip in. That's not a bad thing, since it's a great voice for a madman, and you can *really* hear Hamill giving Ozai his A game.

as far as i put it togheter for me the moust logical way was aang had a problem killing the fire lord due to his age for me this was the thing that made the moust sense, ofc there were other facts but the moust influential one was: HEY CHILD GO AND TRY TO KILL THIS RLY POWERFULL DUDE, DON'T WARRY HIS MURDER IS GOOD FOR THE WORLD, it ain't going to mather how well he understands that, the fact that he's a child is the reason why he has the moust dificult time doing it

I don't know about it needing time after the shot but considering there are only 3 people who can redirect lightning that definitely would've been dead right there. Also you are correct on that its all attack and no defense, mainly due to the fact that its not actually 'bending'. You can't REALLY 'bend' lightning. You can only create it and then let it out. You can't shape it, you can't control it, you can't wield it. As Uncle Iroh puts it, "you are not its master, you are merely its humble guide"

So I know it’s been mentioned about the redirect lightning but one thing I’ve noticed about lightning bending from watching this with everyone is lightning bending is 100% out all attack with 0 defense but when you have such powerful attacks you don’t need defense but that all changes when the redirect comes into play. After lightning is bended the user looks like they’re resting for a second bc the energy usage so when you redirect it you catch them at their most vulnerable state in battle with no energy to move and no strength to defend so with Aang redirecting the Fire Lords attack I believe he would’ve been dead right there. Thoughts? Anyone else see it this way? I just never see it talked about

I always thought that an Agni Kai on the day of Sozin's Comet would be something a lot of FN citizens would consider a once in a lifetime spectacle... Shame Azula banished all the spectators...

I'll probably post the original plans for season 4 next episode, it's something they'd originally planned to make but was scrapped to focus on the shyamalan live action film, aaron ehasz the head writer of Avatar posted the details a while ago, there was some big big plans they had that would have changed a lot of things.

Azula is a really tragic character, you can tell she didn't really have a connection with her mother but her mother's opinion on her really mattered to her, remember that for her, when her mother left she didn't say a word to her, only to Zuko, that hurt her, before it her flames were normal and orange, after cold and blue, she may have been a brat but that attitude was being encouraged by Ozai, the only family who supported her was her father who encouraged a cold and cruel side to her, Zuko had his mum and Iroh who gave him love and support.

Zuko was already very close to Azula back in Ba Sing Sei. She'd still be stronger than him here but hes been close to her level for a while

The thing i noticed about Zuko is that he doesn't really "fly" around like Azula or the Firelord, but he has that unique break dance kinda spin which hes used before to win fights, he did it against the admiral. I also like the sound design they go with the fire, it sounds like the streams of fire are coming from a flamethrowers and it makes it sound powerfull.

I think that you didn't notice it. Just incase you didn't, when the fire lord shot the lightning at aang, and aang was ready to redirect, he was orginally planning on redirecting to the fire lord and potentially killing him, that's why the fire lord looked so scared. Of course, Aang chickened out and sent his lightning to the skies instead.

Two things that you seem to have missed in the episode. Toph launched them with earth bending onto the airships, and when Aang caught Ozai's lightning he aimed at him first, he could've shot him and ended the fight there, but he aimed and redirected it away instead.

The thing I love about the Zuko vs Azula fight the most is the background music. It's not upbeat or epic as you would expect. In fact, it's really sad music which fits this situation perfectly. This is a fight where two siblings are trying to kill each other. It's a tragedy which means that sad music is the perfect fit for it.
