Damn, I think I wan't even a teenager the first time I saw this and here I am, pushing 30, and I still tear up watching that scene where Nami cuts her tattoo to ribbons. I don't think I have ever seen an anime character before or since who seemed so completely real and human.

Probably top 3, if not best, episode in this arc and most probably a top 10 episode in the series. Arlong Park is probably my 4th favorite arc in the anime (different from my top fave arcs in the manga cause the anime messing the pacing sometimes). Bonus points to anyone who can guess the other 3. (Hint: they're all Pre-3D2Y)

I just want to say that I am really enjoying these 1 episode a day reactions. One Piece is about adventure and 1 episode a day is a nice pace for this adventure because it gives you just the right amount to sit back and enjoy. Just like going on vacation, you don't do everything on your list in one day and on day 2 go back home.. You pace yourself and enjoy the time, enjoy the adventure. Plus, when it comes to the goosh I am currently only watching this and the Yu Yu Hakusho videos and 40 minutes a day is a long time when I am busy doing a million other things every day.

I love that Luffy didn't need to hear the tragic backstory about the town or about Nami's burden--because remember-- he's out of the loop. All Luffy needed to see were tears and to hear Nami ask for help and he's ready to march straight into the lion's den; no questions asked.

The thing is, I really enjoy this pace. For one thing, it’s MUCH easier for my damaged memory to keep up. For another, I’ll bet “everybody else” isn’t posting enough videos to require 11 hour days, 6 days per week, before adding in a couple more episodes per day... But beyond everything else, what is the hurry?!?! 😄

That classic Slow Walk to Battle has been done by many, many other shows, but this is the single best example of the trope. The feel of violence and determination on a frayed leash, the anticipation for the battle to come, the knowledge that they're united in their unyielding desire to beat the ever loving shit out of Arlong and his cronies. It all conspires to make this one of my all time favorite moments of the series. There are scenes that come along later that rival, or even surpass it, but this remains among the most memorable scenes even 800+ episodes later. At first you expect Luffy to charge in headlong in a blind rage, and that would've been epic, but that quiet simmer is far more powerful.

Day 36 of my oath: I a 22 year old man do solemnly swear to mention how many episode we are away from catching up to one piece on every single episode that Curtis reacts to and I do not care how long that takes. And on that note: We are 842 away from catching up Okay a couple of things I know alot of you guys mean good and are trying to hype this up, but from what I've seen some of the comments are borderline spoilers, try to keep them to the minimum and try keep the discussion in the context of what Curtis has watched, second this scene believe or not was the scene that really hooked me onto one piece it's just soo good everything from the buildup to the confrontation to nami asking luffy for help was goosebumps inducing.

"Which one of you is Arlong?" is the single most epic 'enter the room' line I know of! Also the style Luffy entered was AWESOME! PS. Did anyone else had problems with video loading? Normally I can see them fine, but now it loaded very slowly if at all and I had to refresh the page many times...

Take a moment to appreciate Luffy's last line. "Which one of you is Arlong?" Luffy has intentionally skipped out on learning anything about this guy and what he is doing. The most terrifying pirate in the East Blue, and Luffy doesn't even know his face. He only cares who he is now because Arlong pissed him off.

I don't know about outright epic, but Angel Beats does a pretty dang good job of being ridiculously silly and heartbreakingly sad too. But yes, One Piece is indeed one of the all time champions in that regard.

I'm generally not too fond of the voice acting in one piece. It may just be me, but aside from a handful of voices I just don't think they sound very believable. HOWEVER, Nami's voice acting in this episode has got to be one of the best performances I have EVER seen!
