It takes away from the show’s subtle changes and warps the reactors expectations. This is one of my favorite Shonen battle series arcs. It's really unbelievable at the high animation quality throughout so many episodes. Also the uniqueness of the fights and how the animation adapts to suit them.

Yeah I'll admit nobody was fooled by Genkai's disguise. I first started reading Yu Yu in manga form in Shonen Jump magazine. I remember reading one random chapter of it, specifically the one where everybody finds out the masked fighter is her. Now at the time I had no idea who Genkai was or her significance to the plot. So the discovery for me went something like this. "Oh my God, the masked fighter is Genkai! ... I have no idea who that is."
