Not really, some people just hate differences in the sequel, and are determined to shit on it, no matter what. I personally loved it, start to finish. Not as good as Avatar, but definitely worth watching, so I really hope you watch it right after Avatar Curtis :D.

Glad you are enjoying Avatar, please stay away from Korra the entire thing was a train wreck from beginning to end. There is much better stuff to watch out there like Berserk 97, Hajime No Ippo, or Code Geass.

One of the things I really like about Avatar, is that it portrays it's villains in a very realistic way. Most other shows will have all their villains be pure evil, with no signs of humanity. In this show, there is an occasional pure evil villain, but most are just humans that are doing the wrong thing for personal reasons.

I still don't get how the balloon wasn't damaged. It fell from the height of a mountain and the basket didn't even break. It also landed in a forest and wasn't ripped by the trees

she didn't really change hundreds of years of tradition in one day, she changed the opinion of one man really, convincing him to teach her, though it's assumed things will change later we don't see any other woman learning under him, there's a lot of cultural issues in the avatar world we know don't get sorted out before the end of the series, like a certain earth bender capital coming up.

TBH Katara is basically the same thing as any person visiting a country and saying "I dont like this you have to change your ways to accommodate me!" Even if she doesnt agree its 1. Not her place / home. 2. They dont have to let her stay. 3. She is not being forced to stay or learn healing. Its the same thing when people go to places like Japan and think things are weird or incorrect. It would be one thing if it was just one person being a ass. But like Pakku said his culture has been this way before even he was born its not like its a personal vendetta he has only. And yeah its a kids show but its funny that Katara alone somehow changed hundred or thousands of years of tradition in one day.
