You say that until you see your own wife, son, father or brother/sister walking at you. It's one of those situation you honestly don't know how you'd react unless it happened. Fortunately zombies don't exist so it's not something we have to think about for now.

Back when I was in University as part of my World Literature course we had to read the The Walking Dead comics. I remember we had a discussion about how in Zombie horror it's always a loved one who turned that bites you. I remember throwing out the answer "Not me, I'm genre saavy." I would gladly bash in a recently turned loved ones brains if it meant not joining the ranks of the undead. Way I see it nobody would want that for one of their loved ones. I would expect the same from them if it was me in that situation. P.S. It seems these zombies follow what I call Pattern Zombie rules. They go about their lives as they did before they became zombies. Reliving either their daily routine or what they were doing before they turned. It's kind of like that Mall scene in the Day of the Dead.

I think the implication of why the zombies pushed through in such large numbers is something the show discussed with the undead having some previous memories so if it starts raining most people want to run inside right? While it was nice and sunny they were content just standing outside but with the rain they all went inside. That's just my guess from what I have learned from the show so I might be wrong.

To explain the zombies it was said that they still have memories and habits before they died. So as students they go to school during the day and supposedly go home at night. You also hear how more of them are at school every day which makes sense since the outbreak started around midday and got to the school area around the evening time. In which case most students would be at home or else where when the zombies attacked. So when they become a zombie the student will slowly make it way back to school during the day if it wasn't already at school. As for why they were storming the school during the rain it also has to do with memories since when it's raining you naturally want to go inside where its dry and with their growing numbers from having more students slowly coming back to school they broke through their barricades.
