bty, luffy was very serious in this fight as he is in all the fights.. and that just awesome

Arlong's one and only redeeming quality is that he's loyal. He's one of the most loyal antagonists we get in One Piece. His love for his fellow Fishman is very refreshing given how racist and hostile he is toward the humans in the show.

This took me back... I just had to skip ahead about 500 episodes to watch the rest of the fishman story with the Fishman island arc.

Luffy's confidence in saying he can't cook, sail, use swords or lie is a great little character moment

"Friend" "Comrade" "Crew member" are basically the most common terms used during the series. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like any of the translators regardless who did the sub actually used the correct terms

To clarify something: they have used the word "friend" a lot when referring to Nami in this arc (and in the series in general, but especially here), which is translated from the japanese word "nakama". Now, while that is by no means a bad translation per sé, I would say that for the purpose of what they're trying to convey here I would say that you should think of it more as something like "one of us". Like for example here at the end: Arlong isn't saying that he's all buddy buddy with Nami, but that she's part of their crew, one of them.

Arlong and his crew only seem really strong compared to normal everyday humans but if they had to face pirates from the grandline and beyond then you'd have a different perspective
