There is one more transformation. Since this series is all about "I have a bigger dick than you". It's at the end of the movie, which is only a recap of the entire series up to that point. So, you could easily just react to the last 5 minutes or so.

I think one of the most interesting things about the series is how none of the bad guys have actually been wrong about their goals. The good guys disagree with how to reach the goal, but not the actual goal.

Its def mecha its under the real robot / super robot genera. Mecha is one of the oldest anime still around so they have adapted over the years setting the trends each with their own style or adding other genera to it like comedy, romance, ect. Example full metal panic is a comedy romance school anime set around mecha vs something like gundam which is hard war drama and started the "Real Robot" craze vs Code Geauss which is a sci fi drama thriller vs Macross that argubaly started the idol/singer anime craze vs Gurren that uses the crazy over the top Super Robot style that started in the black and white era. Mecha itsself is a style that ads or creates new styles since its so old.

Let's see Yoko was about 16 or so at the beginning of the show right? 7 years passed during the time-skip after the battle with Lord Genome. Then 20 years after the fight with the Anti-Spirals. By my math that makes her about 43 years old. Making her your perfect Waifu Curtis. She's a chick that can kick ass (you've mentioned loving that before), she's closer to your age but still hot as hell and she's got the stern sexy teacher thing going on.

Glad you enjoyed it Curto, this is definitely one of my all time favourites, if not my number 1. It's what I'd call the mecha anime that even mecha anime haters can love. And for the movie, if you do decide to watch it, even just showing the final battle against the anti spiral is enough, since that's where alot of the change is. Godspeed, your drill is the drill that will pierce the heavens!

Interesting to note is that the narrator and old Simon have the same voice actor. So I guess the entire series is him reflecting on his journey. And to think he was just a small boy who dug tunnels everyday and now he’s the most powerful spiral being in existence but chooses to stay humble. In the 2nd movie they elaborate and say that Nia had a dream where the barren world would be filled with flowers. So that’s what old Simon does. He goes around helping people and in repayment has them plant flowers to make Nia’s dream come true.

Such a bittersweet ending. I don't know whether you know this but it was written by the same guy who wrote the script for Kill La Kill and the director for Gurren Laggan also directed Kill La Kill which is probably why the art style is so similar.
