Meanwhile, Ging intentionally cheats at his own game to prevent his son from finding him after completing all the training he put forth. Ging's a shittier dad that Goku.

The thing is, Ging and Gon have their own mindset about everything and I think they are honestly actually pretty similar, it's just Ging has been alive longer. Everything as far as they are concerned has to be a challenge to overcome, a journey to get through, a game to beat. Everything Ging has laid out for Gon has been training of different varieties, if Gon was alone in the world I think Ging would have done something about it, but the way he sees it is Gon has loyal and wonderful friends and at the end of the day that's more important than a father he barely remembers. Leorio was of course in the right but we also know from earlier eps that Ging is one of the top 5 nen users in the world as far as Netero was concerned, so he was willing to let Leorio have his moment. I don't think Leorio fully understands the way Gon's mind works and how he wouldn't necessarily want Ging to just come to him after all the time he has spent chasing him, it's just the way they are.

What Leorio said just an over-romanticize thing, I don't think it make any senses that if Ging go to speak with Gon and it would really made Gon better. Since Ging said to that he believed Gon isn't going to died, then why he have to left his duty on his hand and going to where he can't do anything. And if Gon wake up and knew Ging was visited, Gon would feel that his most important mission was destroy while he slept, that would be worse for Gon. So even I like when Leorio punched Ging in the face, but I find that Ging is really mature and what he did wasn't bad like black-white things, and this is why I really love HxH.

It's always fun for me to talk about Ging in this EP. To me Ging is a bad father but he also have a good side on the same time. If Ging were a father in common sense (to take care, to leave his dream and staying home), it would be boring and that's not Gon's dad. On the other hand Gon is not a good boy, he's very similar to Hisoka (for this argument, watching Aleczandxr's video abiut Gon's morality would be critical) and he is a boy who did thing only satisfied himself, that's why he is Ging's son. And if we look at Ging's case, what he did for Gon, is good for both. Since Gon was born, Ging left him with Mito-san because it would be impossible for Ging to be hunter and to take care Gon in the same time. How he can bring Gon with him? In a dangerous situation, if Ging bring Gon along with him, it might cost their life both. Mito-san is obviously a great and nice person, but she doesn't really have her dream or need like Ging, so when Ging decided to left Gon with Mito-san, I believed it was a right and the best choice for all people to have. Mito-san have Gon as her son, Gon have a warm-hearted person like Mito-san to take care, received sufficient love when grown up and Ging can still follow his dream. Obviously better than have Ging who don't really know how to be father as Gon's side.

Despite his flashy style of dress and Medical School level IQ. Leorio still maintains a lot of the personality traits of your classic street punk. (Case in point when somebody really pisses him off, he'll haul off and punch them. He don't care if it is in front of the entire's Hunter association). For some reason I'm now imagining a spin-off series that is Dr. Leorio doing his residency at a hospital. Him dealing with the politics that usually goes on in such a place would be kind of interesting.
