The amount of lines blurred, dashed and sands that drew them scattered into the winds with this arc in HxH blew my mind. I had no reasonable expectations by the end of it. I had no expectations whatsoever. I couldn't. It was truly greatness.

the influence komugi has on mereum is so fascinating

"i hope you can live as a human" Thats so powerfull. It destroyed Pouf because hes not only using "living as a human" as something positive, which is beyond Poufs understanding, but he wishes this to an enemy of his, a traitor who just insulted him. Meruem switched from Monster(eating him) to human (sparing his life and wishing him good luck)

As you said, the king does have the most humanity. Thats the theme of this arc everyone keeps mentioning, Gon is the human who became a monster and Meruem is the Monster who became a human. And they never even met.

This show is just simply phenomenal.

This is when Pouf realized how much the king loves her. The imagery and the symbolism of his emotions as soon as he remembered her. It destroyed pouf. Hes never felt that way and he probably feels its a weekness for any ant to do so. Im not sure if he came around tho. Some people make good points for that.

Definitely, I think the fact that Pouf was prepared to die rather than reveal his secret emphasises this. Death isnt even the worst outcome for him, he would rather sacrifice himself to his loyalty as he said.

I'm impressed how you managed to predict that Welfin would say Komugi. Because I certainly didn't see it coming. Also I think the greater punishment for Pouf is not being punished. The fact that the King has regained his humanity and thus won't kill him for his transgressions. Is in his eyes punishment enough.

Togashi did the great job in Hunter x Hunter. He took this crazy powerful super monster villian and turn him to such great person who can be more human that humans themself. But main hero of the story - Gon - became unstoppable monster instead. They basically switched places. And that was done really good! Masterfully! By the end of the arc - it is hard to tell, who is really good and who's evil. And that's - what Hunter doing best. There are NO villians and NO heroes. There are just characters, just people. Everybody capable of bad things and good things. Everybody has their breaking point. And everybody has something what important to them or someone dear to them. I don't know...this show...is just...i don't have words...

The king truly is a wonderful villain, when you can agree with the “villain” at some points and like his/her character as a person i think the writer succeeded amazingly

This is one of the reasons I find these conversations we have in here fascinating. I have no sentiment towards Pouf, yet I ended up with a lot for Meruem and definitely some sentimentality for Pitou and Youpi. That makes it all the more interesting to read someone's take who had the opposite feeling... You described your reasoning really well, too.

As you watched both 134-135 I will say I feel really sad for Pouf as he is the only one who most still being the same among the Royal Guard, and he is the closet one to human's nature. He is powerful yet he is the last Royal Guard left to see Youpi died, to face anxiety when Pitou didn't came back to the Palace, to play the game he knew he have no chance to win since begining (contest with the King) and to serve Meruem not the Ideal King. I really sad to see him drive himself into the corner to died alone and painfully after huge effort he put all the way.

i love the playing of words and imagery in this ark that Meruem means the light that illuminates all and how when Komugi got hurt light illuminated all except for the kings face and when the bomb went off it illuminates his face and now again when he remembers Komugi it illuminates everything in his mind before coloring it and that he is looking in to a light that appears to be in the sky and at the end of the episode he walks in to the light.

That WW2 reference at the beginning tho, they never got over the lost. I feel for the king cause even if he doesn't know it yet, he really wants to smash komugi and possibly start a family...
