Chimera ants are mostly controlled by their instincts, they are like a larger version of the ants we saw in the beginning of the arc. And like kite explained, when the king is born he searches for new terretory killing and eating everything in his way. From the perspectiv of the Queen the King does everything as he should and from the perspectiv of the king he does nothing more than do what his instincts tell him to do. So no the queen didnt die delusional. her son is the ruthless king that is needed to make the chimara ants as sucsessfull a species as possible.

Nettero pulled a Sakura 😄 needless to say, this was way more impressive.

While it is true that having the Chimera Ant Soldiers leave saves the trouble of fighting through them all at once. It has a lot of major consequences. Namely the amount of panic and offspring they will spread. When they were still restricted to the NGL it was easy enough to lead an extermination campaign. But now they're spread all over Hell's half-acre. For all we know the World Governments would never be able to track down all of the renegade soldiers. Meaning that when they least expect it they could be dealing with a whole new hive out of nowhere. When they least expect it.
