Currently watching this I'm about 10 episodes ahead and I'm enjoying it immensely its almost tempting to just sit and watch the rest all in one go its also great to see your reactions to something i only watched recently

The Black family's war cries are actually pretty run of the mill for nomadic mounted warriors like themselves. You see similar ones among Native Americans and Bedouins.

Not my favorite episode but that only means it’s up hill from here on

While this episode is the worst of the series, it introduces Kittan, who is my favorite character (aside from the core cast). Also, Boota is a pigmole like those huge ones they rode in episode 1. The whole thing with his tail giving them power will make a fair amount of sense eventually, but dont bother trying to figure it out right now. Your brain hasn't been spun around enough yet lol.

I know I mentioned this during Kill la Kill because they made reference to it but just in case I'll repeat it. A guest animation director was invited to make an episode and the fan reaction was really bad. In fact a high level employee from Gainax (the company that made Gurren Lagann) said that reading those comments was like "putting his face next to an anus and inhaling deeply". He later stepped down. But yeah the animation change was due to a very respected animator with a "unique style".
