WINRY’S AGONIZING DECISION! - FMAB #22

The conundrums brought up within this series are fantastic! This time, it was poor little Winry who was faced with a brutal life and death decision. Did she do the right thing? For herself and her own psychological well-being, yes. For the greater good? It's hard to say.

WINRY’S AGONIZING DECISION! - FMAB #22

Comments

The fact that as a later fan/patron youtube allowed so many to be struck or removed is beyond annoying

What I really love about Scar is that he makes you question your own morals. I completely understand why he is doing what he is doing, but then again, I don't think what he is doing is right. On a different note, I think Winry had the right to know about exactly what happened to her parents, but it would have been nice if it hadn't been in front of the man who had done it.

I think saying 'scar did bad' is oversimplifying things, a tad. Not because it's innacurate, it's wholly accurate, but it's important to understand he did not intend to kill innocent people. The last thing he remembers is almost dying, and his brother possibly dying. Then, he wakes up with his brothers arm attatched to his body in a situation he does not fully comprehend. How was he to know those two he killed weren't more soldiers, or captors or interrogators or what have you? He was just in a war zone where the enemy was characterized by their ethnic features, and that's what he saw on these people. It does not make it right, but it makes it understandable. I'm fairly certain you will find similar accounts from both soldiers and civilians in times of war.

Hi O'laverly

To be honest, I'm not unsympathetic towards him; I completely get his need for vengeance. It's just, at this point, if he isn't stopped, when does all the killing end?

Spaz Boys Comedy

scar is like the saske of FMA pretty much

I'm a bit more sympathetic to Scar, not that it totally excuses him. It's like a Jewish person hating Nazi's (State Alchemists) a few years after surviving a concentration camp and the Holocaust. It's only a few years later but to Scar, All state alchemists contribute to the system of government that is still in power. To a Jewish person anyone who is a Nazi contributes to the regime even if they say they are different, which was shown by the complete dismantling of the Nazi regime. That retribution never happened in Full Metal.

The moral fiber of the Elric is quite impressive ,if somewhat naive at times. But it's what makes them so interesting as main characters. This episode is really good also at showing some of the character depth of scar and how complex he is.

I just LOVE that shot near the end where Scar starts to realize he has become his oppressor, being in pretty much the exact same position as the state alchemist who ruined his life was.

I was wondering when you were going to notice the parallels between the Amestrians and another blue-eyed nation. While there's that parallel I've also noticed a lot of similarities between the experiments in Ishval. (Which the coroner and Mustang talk about how Mustang would fry them so the coroner could dissect them). There's a scary similarity between those experiments and Japan's own Unit 731.

My bad, Jacob! I've been working on editing so much, I forgot... I'll go make it available right now.

Hey Curtis have you seen the naruto episode where kakashi's face is revealed, if i remember correctly, you would like to see it.

Honestly for everyone that hasnt been almost dead, when you wake up the disassociation you feel is crazy. I bet its worrse if youre coming back from like a huge explosion. The only reason he doesnt defend himself is because in his stoicsm, regardelss of the fact he probably wasnt aware at the time he was killing innocents, he still feels that the fact stands regardless of situation. I disagree. I actually had to get sedated coming back from something because I almost tore some stitches on my arm looking for a glass of milk. If I could go from arm to fridge with a glass of milk inside, going from amestrian civilians to amestrian soldiers isnt that much of a leap.

Scar not a horrible guy I mean you could have just killed them but he at least somewhat stopped

Also, shout out to Ed for making the exact same mistake as Mustang by not telling the truth about a persons death. Guess Ed has more in common with Mustang than he thought.

Your Mom

Nice reaction. That scene at the end does such a good job of drawing people in, and then it just stops on a dime when Ed jumps in to save winry. It's as jarring to the audience as it is to Scar, who in that critical moment sees his brother in Ed, and for the first time he stops and truly considers what he's doing.

Your Mom

Scar basically had his entire race nearly wiped out so he took to killing state alchemist who he saw as the reason his people stood no chance of surviving the war

WHOLESOME DEUS

:-D

As convinced as you are that my opinion MUST be tainted by the fact that he's opposing main characters, you are incorrect. I don't know if the episode has been posted yet - or if the comment made the final cut - but I already addressed exactly that. Yes, I would feel exactly the same way and do the same thing. Also yes, I would need to be stopped... Scar's actions are understandable but, even as his own people have observed, he is currently the one perpetuating the violence, so when does it stop? If I'm in disagreement with how you feel on something - or you perceive a disagreement - belittling it as bowing to the main characters is insulting and factually inaccurate.

*crying* Fucc you Scar, you killed Mufasa!!! ... oh wait, shit, wrong story. Sorry for spoiling lion king. fma scar still kinda naughty too tho.

Hexigoon

The thing that gets to me about scar killing the rockbells is that he had just been through hell and his hate for amestrians coupled with the shock from seeing his brothers arm as his he went in a blind rage and killed the first amestrians he saw. It wasnt on purpose it was a moment of pure agony and sorrow

Lachlan Ferrand

Again its like asking a person who had his entire family murdered coldblooded by the government to sit down and take it. Im sure if the same happened to you Curtis you would want some form of justice for your family's murder.

PKKite

Curtis is very biased to main characters despite if a villain is just in his actions lol

PKKite

He just had everything he knew and loved murdered by these blond hair blue eyes foreigners. when he wakes up he has his brother own cut off arm as his own and is shell shocked. They clearly show from his view he only saw the pricing blue eyes of his peoples killers.

PKKite

Exactly. not saying curtis is bad for it but he is clearly biased to the Amestrians.

PKKite

I always felt Scar killed winrys parents on accident. He just survived a bombing and i think when he saw her parents when he woke up he was still deranged and saw them as enemy soldiers. Thats why whenever someone mentions the Rockbells he kinda tenses up cuz he knows hes guilty.

Soulley

Your views on scar would be total different by the end of the series, sure what he is doing is wrong, but he has a perfect reason to kill, because the state alchemist started the war by killing one of his people

To be fair, the way I look at scar's motivation, it's more than just "so what, keep doing it?" They instigated war, killed almost all of his people, then go back to peace. While he should be stopped, it's a bit hard to stay put while simply watching the rest of the world sweep it under a rug and call peace within the country - after the "massacre'" quoted within the military itself. He's also only targeting alchemist rather than the general population. You'll learn more later in the show!

Loro Lukic

Hmm if Winry did kill scar and that was indeed justified then wouldn't what scar is doing to the state alchemists justified, regardless of the pretext he is following. Just saying that acknowledging Winry's decision to kill scar would mean accepting scars path for vengeance.

Chrisman148

Yeah, Scar is a complicated one. What he's doing is wrong, but also justifiable. He's the perfect example that justice isn't always the right answer.
