SOME HELP? I'D LIKE YOU GUYS' THOUGHTS ON THIS!

Hey, Gang... Patreon has been notifying me of this feature they now offer called "Charge Up Front". Basically, if I enable it, when someone joins, they will be charged the amount of the level at which they join immediately, then again on the first of the following month and the first of every month they remain with us.

It doesn't really affect you guys, as you're already members and you would be charged on the first of the month, the same as always. What it would do, though, is stop people from coming in with, for instance, a $10 pledge, then they could watch all the content at that level and back out before the end of the month. This strikes me as particularly unfair to you guys who are our regular community, as they're getting for free what you pay to see.

As far as how it affects me, I'm VERY happy with how well THE GOOSH has been going! The freedom and the fun here has been AWESOME!! While I've never been a big fan of people "gaming the system" in any situation, it really doesn't bother me all that much when people dive in, then duck out, simply because I still have the great community feel, and friendship here that I've always wanted.

You can see all the details of this new system here: https://patreon.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/210291283-What-is-charge-up-front

I'd just like your thoughts on if I should partake or not, as in the past, you guys have always helped me look at things from different angles and helped me out a lot!

Thanks, GOSHERS!  :-)

I’m not gonna lie I joined and didn’t realize Patreon was international and then I went out of town for work, when I got back I had to enable international transactions to do the monthly fee. I could see how having people joking for a ride could suck though. I wish they had a prorated system for the pay up front thing. Regardless I love your reactions and will be around for a bit, but have to remember to turn on the international at the first! :)

Gregory Giles

Didn't understand what you meant at first but I think I got it. As long as I can still cancel and resub when I have the money. Love your reactions and I'll support ya as long as I can.

Michael Wilson

This will actually hep me a lot

꧁Coltonius Maximus꧂

It does SOUND heartless but remember Curtis you have a youtube channel which details what you're about so that's a newcomers sort of trial so by all means charge anyone who comes here, they've already tried before the buy-ed... yes I know that's not a word shut up.

TheLurker

having people abuse the monthly fee is unfair to hundreds of us patreons who pay every month to be apart of this community. so yes, absolutley, make them pay to join like the rest of us

I'd turn it on, I saw someone in your YT comments earlier that was bragging about doing so, which will encourage others that see it to join in on that, which is unfair to you and to everyone here that pays monthly to see your stuff

Yeah, I would have thought that it would have charged those people the $10 anyways. That's like getting someone to paint your house and stopping them before the last stroke and saying that you changed your mind, so you don't have to pay them.

Slice O Potatoe

Definitely switch it to where you get paid first I doubt anyone here has a problem with it and if they do they shouldn't be here in the first place besides you're always working to bring us good content so you deserve it

Dallas Winston

Thats actually a good point

Yuion

Well as someone who has did this on accident to this specific patron, I do have mixed feelings on the subject. I started off at $10. Realised I didn't care too much for the extra content, tried to lower my pledge to $5. Accidently added 5 instead. Then finally fixed it to a $5 pledge. All in around an hour of my first pledge. So if I'm guessing right, I would be charged $30 for that 1 month, because of a mistake. Would that be fair to me? No. But I would just be the exception to the rule.

CiNegi

I dont really care about that, though I, since my Salary always comes 1 or 2 days late, would prefer the charge up front. I always have to repledge on the second or third a month because i dont have money on the first

Yuion

Definitely start charging up front, you guys deserve every penny.

assholes are usually broke anyway

Wolves

No, it's not "EZ money" when people see it and think "oh, another greedy patreon user that doesn't even trust me to get through the first month. It's just gonna turn people away. Curtis's low cost of entry is what allures people. This will turn them away. It would have turned me off.

GoldArthur

Ez money

No, it doesn't really benefit him in any way shape or form. The fact that they can see and watch a large portion of his content without paying and pull out at the last minute is the very fact that this poll is being made. Unfortunately not everyone has good intentions and because of that stuff like this "pay upfront" option is made.

ZERO

it doesnt bother me but i think keeping the free month would be more beneficial to you. if its free people can see what you have to offer and if they like it they would stick around. its up to you though

I never understood how Patreon makes money if people can just 'back out'.

Ali6B

I have no preference, so i'll leave the vote to the rest of ya. I don't see it causing any harm, but maybe there's stuff I'm not thinking of? One of those things where I really don't know.

Hi O'laverly

THE GODS HAVE SPOKEN

I don't mind either way as long as the goosh keeps growing

Aidan

If it wasn't a small fee I'd say wait till the end of the month to see if the goosh is really for him, but since its 1,5 or 10$ they should pay upfront for all the content

Loro Lukic

We are THE GOOSH!! :-D

Spaz Boys Comedy

No I can tell you for sure im not the problem is though if you sign up on june 30th you'd get charged then again on July 1st that's my only problem with it

I thought this was a family already! 😀

codebreaker1298

Thanks for including us so heavily. I'm grateful of how much you respect your community, to the point where it feels like a second family for some.

Definitely change it up! They shouldn't be cheating you out whoever it is, but making them pay upfront would change that up for sure! ☺😀

codebreaker1298

THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH for the feedback, Gang!... I was gonna monitor this for a day or two to see how you all felt, but I never expected the opinions to be so strongly to one side... Given that, I feel comfortable going ahead and making the change... As I've said over and over, my favorite part of THE GOOSH is the community element, so I don't like making any major changes without running it past you guys first. Again, thanks SO MUCH for all the support!... One other positive about the pay up front method: Here at THE GOOSH, we've been able to avoid the toxicity that generally takes place throughout YouTube. I think there's little doubt that this method will help keep us clear of trolls and douchebags, as I don't think there's a lot of people who would actually pay to just be an asshole! :-D

Spaz Boys Comedy

That's wonderful😀💸💸💸

Only down side is now you'd have to do $100 requests as they come :P

Yunru

lol, 22% against it, wonder if they are the ones just backing out before getting charged xD

Mikki_Frost

Tbh I don't really get why this is something to be discussed at all. The only people this would affect negatively are those trying to steal paid content. I support plenty of creators, and one of their goals almost always is to get this option to stop exactly that from happening.

Flashzie

If you feel it's unfair to us and since it won't affect us anyway, I don't see why not. I say go right ahead and stop people from watching these videos for free while we pay to do so.

Can´t really vote on this tbh, do whatever feels best for you man :)

Emil Johansson

Entirely up to you, I feel like if people do that it affects you more than me. I pay every month, come on to watch a bunch of cool videos, and then go on with my life. The way others are acting doesn't play into that. But they're taking your product for free, so if you feel it's affecting you negatively then go with it. If you don't care then maybe it doesn't matter.

you make 400 dollars an hour????? that is your minimum wage???

I didn't know you weren't charged. In-fact I had always assumed you were charged up-front so when I became a Patron for Curtiss and Semblance of Sanity I waited a week or two (agonizingly) till the start of a new month to become a patron. I didn't want to pay the full fee for a few days of access, and this might put some people in the same situation. I wish Patreon would pro-rate the charge so if you subscribe halfway through the month that up-front charge would be 50% of the full-month rate.

Daniel Chapman

Yes the only people who would complain are those who weren't even paying you anyway

PKKite

The fresh meat must pay upfront and offer a blood sacrifice in order to be accepted into the Goosh Cult 🐓🔪👹

up front like a b0ss

Well when I wanted to become your Patron I was confused that the money weren't taken away from my credit card. This is when I thought that my credit card was not suited for Patreon so I was searching and searcning until I found out that it only charges on the 1st day of the next month. Was very confusing. I thing it should charge right away.

invo

I thought it already worked like that; I didn't realize you could literally back out before paying anything and still get full benefits for a while. Just pledging one month to access everything already up is already a great deal, I don't see anything wrong with charging up front.

David McMurray

It’s should honestly be up to you. I literally just pledged for the first time today and when it said I’d be charged September 1st I was kinda shocked because I realized how easy it would be to take advantage. However I enjoy your content and wouldn’t want to cheat you. That would be a dick move haha

Aaron S.

Honestly I was wondering what's up with that when I joined the Goosh and could watch everything without having paid yet🤔. 😁 this policy makes way more sense.

Jojoekage

I agree your time is money. they should pay up front to have access to the content so like you said people don’t just back out before hand, if they still want to back out afterwords is fine. But. at least that way you’d get paid either way. And it’s fair to all of us.

You're one of the few I actually give money to (as I live in a country where minimum wage is 400$), if I didn't enjoy you this much I wouldn't have joined the patreon. While this gives other people the chance to watch this for free, I think it should be left as such, even though I pay - I want other people who can't afford it to get the chance to watch your reaction.

ArchmageVengard

Definitely should be up front. The other way is like creating a new email account and doing free trials over and over lol

MOB12

Its like having free loaders eat all your food

You shouldn’t be cheated out of your hard earned money. So paying up front is the best solution
