A brief word of explanation about the first handful of episodes: if they seem to be going extremely fast, it's because they're rapidly covering the parts that were already shown in the older Full Metal Alchemist anime. Once they start deviating from the older anime, the episodes will start slowing down to a more reasonable pace.

It wasnt a fake stone, just imperfect. Once its power was spent, it disintegrated. It would have been pretty useless for the Elric brothers as it would have nowhere near the level of power for the alchemy they want to perform, namely restoring their bodies.

Basic explanation of Alchemy its Basically moving stuff around at the microscopic level you cant Add or Remove Mass so you can turn a pile of rubble into a wall with an etched mural or a statue and vice versa but you cant change it from stone to metal you could also make liquid hotter or colder or like the guy in episode one or turn all the loose ingredients in a cake into a cake...probably...I think... but its not magic youd just be heating up the oxygen in the air and bonding the materials together similarly if you used a wooden spoon and an oven...which would take way less time and practice to learn to do....and the Philosophers stone is supposedly a way to get around that as seen in this episode

This is great but Ill always like the First FMA version even though the System of Alchemy wasnt flushed out at the time and theres plotholes and a few self contradictions especially in explaining how Ed Transmutes without a Circle which is not normal but they played it as all State Alchemists could but its still really fun aswell as a little Darker and this stuff here all happens in the first two episodes and the way they do it and reveal Als just a suit of Armor is way more Epic
