Rin represents a time when Obito was happy, being basically a child soldier, experiencing war and death from such a young age it’s not hard to think that anything that actually makes him happy would make him want to cling to that, therefore seeing Rin die before his eyes was basically him seeing any kind of happiness he has in the world be killed too, he wasn’t lying when he said he didn’t start the war just because of Rin, she was merely the catalyst that made him lose hope, him looking back and seeing her is really just him looking back to a time when he was last truly happy, unfortunately a lot of people see this as him having feelings for a 12 year old girl when in reality he misses what she represents to him; happiness
