Hush

Greetings adventurers!

I’ve heard of monks that take upon themselves vows of silence. In other words, they don’t use words. I admit, that was a cheeky bit of wordplay of my own, but it is something fantastic to me to see in action. I spent some time with these monks and was so inspired by their ways and how they manage to communicate without using spoken word, that I knew I had to craft something that would commemorate and honor the nature of these dedicated spiritual peoples. I set about it in the most direct way possible, a mask that can quiet things down as needed. Now shhh, I’d like to listen to the sounds of the world.

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

If that strikes your fancy, consider becoming a Patron

Design notes from Matthew:

Continuing in our theme of some lower level items, I wanted to create something that would offer more options when it comes to casting certain spells. There’s a problem for many casters in 5E or PF2E that they must speak a command or in some other way use a verbal incantation which gives them away immediately. This is not an issue for spells with the subtle trait in PF2E or for those without verbal components in 5E, but it’s still something that I thought could use an option.

For the 5E version, removing the verbal component will make most spells entirely silent except those that have a described auditory component like thunderwave. This does make the 5E version a bit more powerful, but that’s alright considering the nature of 5E to be a bit more loose with power on all sides of the screen. The silence option gives another utility slot that casters could use to fill out their less than stealthy party.

In the PF2E version, something I had to consider was if this would give spells the subtle trait or not. I decided that the option to make most any spell subtle would be a bit beyond the scope of what I want for a lower level item. There are certain spells that would end up much too powerful. Instead, I opted to have it ignore the verbal incantation but still let the spell make noise if it made sense to. It’s a subtle (get it?) difference, but an important one for balance.

I’m really enjoying filling out the lower level end of our item catalogue this month and it’s something I want to do with more frequency as I know that most adventuring seems to take place between the levels of 1 and 10.  We have a lot of powerful and high end items, but it’s worth designing for all tiers of play!

We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
