One More Thing: Tome Spirit

Greetings Adventurers,

I have been wanting to do some more spirits for awhile as I think the concept of unfinished business is such a cool idea to explore in tabletops. A creature that you can't simply destroy through combat, but you must actually lay them to rest, well that's just an interest gameplay element. I think that we could use more options like that when we're building our worlds and so I wanted to take on something I hadn't yet seen in TTRPGs, a ghostly librarian. You would think that would be out there, but I couldn't find much. We decided to make it instead!

Design notes from Matthew:
Moving into spirits creates a lot of fun ideas for what they can do. The idea of moving through solid surfaces is already interesting enough in a system based on positioning and so on, but also just the concept of something coming back over and over again will make for an encounter that the party likely won't forget. I'll be real, this started with me remembering the beginning of Ghostbusters, but it became something much more interesting as time went on.
In the 5E version, there's a lot of predefined things that ghosts are immune and resistant to. Making sure to include them all is sometimes a bit of a headache, but that's the nature of this kind of creature. The most fun one for me to write here was definitely the silence reaction as it allowed me to treat it much more like a low level cast of counterspell. I think silence would have been obvious as a spell slot, but I didn't want to make this an all out caster.
For the PF2E version, something fascinating is the built in rejuvenation traits as well as the slightly different way to use concealment. I think Concealed as a condition in PF2E is quite interesting and I wanted the chance to highlight that as a mechanic. It's not something we get to see in combat too much and I think that's a shame!
