Goop Gun

Greetings adventurers!

I’ve seen many attempts at creating stronger and stronger adhesives that will bond things together for time eternal. I’m not sure what the obsession is with creating stronger adhesives, but it seems that the drives of inventors are not always subject to the whims or reasonable thought. I had a different idea one day. What if we don’t need stronger adhesives, but a more interesting way to deliver them. What I didn’t expect was that the resulting goop was quite flammable in my testing. I could have looked at it as a failure, but my motto is that there’s a use case for any invention and I think I know the one for this.

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

Design notes from Matthew:

Sometimes we like to design pairs of items that go quite well together. We might do this back to back or several months apart and most times I don’t really bother calling attention to it. The fact of the matter is that it’s rare for people to give linked pairs like that and I didn’t see a reason to always point them out. Looking back, that might have been a mistake on my part. Going forward if we do make something as a pairing with something else, I’m going to point it out and this week is one of those. It pairs quite well with the item coming next week.

Fernando and I had been chatting about possibilities and the idea of a flammable gel that could pair with any fire damage was really interesting to me. I think that there’s a lot of potential out there to bring together two concepts or allow more “setup and payoff” type of mechanics. Designing for them can be difficult as you don’t always want it to be just pure damage like this one, but it’s a task I’d like to take on.

The mechanics of the goop gun itself were fairly straightforward. A small cone, difficult or slowed movement, and flammability all were core to the idea and were really all we needed to pull it together. In 5E I just went the simplest route and added additional damage when you take fire damage. In the PF2E version, I went for the weakness mechanic since that easily gets the job done without having to tack something on. I love a simple idea executed interestingly.

As I mentioned earlier, we’ll be releasing an item next week that pairs quite well with this one. I’m excited to try a few more of these in the future as well so if you enjoy this type of mechanical idea of teamplay, let us know. Thanks again for all of your continued support. It’s the only way we can keep this going.

We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
