2024-06-28 01:47:02 +0000 UTCYes, that was Samuel Jacksonโฆbefore he added the L. and became cool. lol I think there is some confusion as to what the phrase โbased onโ means in this context. These are fictional stories based on actual events, but they arenโt documentaries. This movie was based on the book โWiseguy: Life in a Mafia Familyโ written by a crime reporter named Nicholas Pileggi. His book is considered non-fiction, but the movie alters things for the sake of the story. For example, they donโt cover Hillโs stint in the military and subsequent dishonorable discharge due to continued criminal behavior. Or that the double date was with Paul Varioโs son, not Tommy. Other details overlooked or altered were that Hill was arrested for heroin trafficking, not cocaine, and the place Billy Batts was murdered was a restaurant owned by Hill called The Suite. This movie could be said to be closely based on real events, while Fargo was loosely based on events. But it doesnโt really matter, what matters is whether you enjoyed the film or not, and whether it got its message across. Both movies pass those tests with flying colors.
