Just thought I would share this on here in case it will help aid in the search:)
Fun facts about what my caregiving looks like based on the Colorado Medicaid, which does not give me a 24 hour caregiving assistance despite the fact that I am depending on either the ventilator or the diaphragm pacer to stay alive.
1. I get 12 hours of paid Medicaid care each day.
2. The shifts for my daytime caregivers are 9 AM to 3 PM and 3 PM to 9 PM. I'm looking into seeing if any new weekend caregivers would be open to 12 hour shift on Saturday and Sunday.
3. At night, 9 PM to 9 AM, my parents HELP care give for me. Even if I found caregivers to work the night shift, I would have to pay out-of-pocket.
4. I supplement with my own money to pay for bonuses and help with raises to supplement what Medicaid pays per hour.
Five. Whenever I go to a concert or event, I pay for my caregiver because it's far as I know caregivers don't come in free. So, if you want to go to red rocks concert with me,!, you should apply.
6. I have an accessible van, which all my caregivers learn to drive. I pay with my own money for everything to upkeep the van. Including monthly insurance and Break changes and gas and toll fees. That's why I post so many sexy pictures for you guys.
7. My caregivers learn eventually how to change hey tracheostomy, it's really quite simple and takes less than five minutes, how to change an indwelling Foley catheter, how to manage respiratory equipment, and, if they're comfortable with it, how to do a bowel program. Almost all of my caregivers have been taught everything on the job. With little to no medical experience previously.
Eight. I use cannabis, but anyone working for me has to respect that I require sober people around me while they are on the clock. I will totally get high with you when you're not on the clock!
Nine. Everything I say is an open book because I have to use voice access for everything and it's not always possible to have my caregivers leave the room constantly because I am trying to text with my voice. So I like if my caregivers have their own ear buds or way of distracting themselves otherwise I struggle with my private life and have to wait until I'm alone to respond private messages.
