This is something new that's been happening lately whenever my caregiver Ella massages this area. For some reason, the hyper reactivity in my shoulder blade area moved into the area underneath my armpits and right by my deltoids. Maybe it's from two years of not having a boyfriend to massage my boobs? Paralyzed people need everybody to know that all areas of their body need attention and love. Ella self teaches herself physical therapy and honestly I think she will make a wonderful physical therapist someday.
Whenever she massages my armpit area my arm does a sort of bicep curl. This is not voluntary movement but I still think it's a positive thing! If I go all day without this area massaged I can feel the soreness and a Cold nerve pain. My arms fly around and weird spasms happen if the area is not massage and I spend all day alone doing tilt backs every 15 minutes in my wheelchair. The tilt backs are to prevent pressure sores on my sacrum. When I tilt back, my back process into the back of the wheelchair end not only do I hit my shoulder blade area but also the lymph node area at the back of my armpits. This causes my arms to fly up in the air if they have not had attention and I end up calling for help to put them back on my arm rests. I could take spasm medication however I do not want to impede any possible future movement. I truly feel so much better in my body when I am being regularly stretched and massaged properly. We're talking deep tissue. Don't assume that because someone is paralyzed they don't want you to touch them or move them. On the contrary I can assure you more of this is exactly what we need for our bodies to stay healthy and perhaps one day regain some movement. Since the time of my accident two years ago, I am finally getting the care I need, and my sensation has been getting better definitely in my arms and legs. Definitely in my back… it's probably most difficult to feel sensation on my chest and stomach.,
