There's not a whole lot of physical therapy that I can do as someone with a very high-level spinal cord injury.
However, my neck strength has gotten a lot better in the past year, although obviously you can see my neck is still very crooked because of the hardware called a Harrington Rod that was placed there as a fusion.
Recently I started to use these balls to help my posture while I am in the wheelchair all day long. My shoulder blades and all of my back is constantly sore and when I press on to something like these balls my back spasms fiercely. Several people are surprise that I can feel soreness and muscle achiness. Just because someone is paralyzed and cannot heal so as to move like a normal person, we can still feel a great deal depending on the type of injury. My injury is incomplete, which means there may be some room for the body to heal itself in the future. I have regained a lot of sensation since my injury two years ago and it is a good sign although my back has been bothering me a lot more now that I can feel more in that area. Some days, I have to constantly use these balls or ask my caregivers to stretch me frequently. I'm doing all that I can to try end strengthen the muscles I do have.
