Great job on finishing. In my opinion DS2 earns the reputation it has. Not its worst criticisms, but it feels more like a Souls-like than a true Souls game for me. Burnt out is a very accurate description of what a lot of people experience at the end of this game, so whenever you come back to FromSoft I think you'll easily rediscover the magic, whether it's DS3, Sekiro, etc. Your instincts line up with the biggest pitfalls of the game, despite that it does have some fun and redeeming elements.

Thoughts on the playthrough: I discovered the channel during the DS1 series because I really like watching people play Dark Souls. I didn't catch every episode of DS2 but I looked forward to every Amber+Emma episode. It would be awesome to see more collaborations with Emma even after DS2 is dead and gone. Overall, I think the playthrough was as entertaining as it could be considering that the game itself was just not that great. Thoughts on Dark Souls 2: Basically, Fromsoft didn't exactly understand what made DS1 so special, and tried to put everything in DS2's broth - as many hard bosses as possible, as many illogically connected areas as possible, etc, etc. A different team was in charge of DS2 and Fromsoft itself was also clearly burned out by expectation and poor execution. There isn't a lot of analysis of DS2 online, at least compared to DS1 and DS3. The game seemed to want you to see Vendrick as the logical end of your player after DS1 - so overpowered and aimless after linking the flame of a world that needed to die, that it drove him hollow. But then at the last minute, they stooped to "actually it was just that the queen was evil; shouldn't have married her, Vendrick..." Aside: While playing DS3, it might be interesting to keep an eye out for any meta commentary the game might be making about the series itself.

2024-07-03 15:09:43 +0000 UTCIgnore the haters. DS2 with Amber and Emma was a great passtime everytime it came by, loved the videos. I honestly think viewtime is because it's DS2, which is in many people's eyes just a stain on the souls line of games. I find it to be immensely frustrating as well. DS3 is a lot more fun and fair in that regard imo. (Once you're ready to get back to a souls game of course!) Get your well deserved rest in and just play some relaxing games for a while (or... get a SOMA playthrough in there? not that relaxing, still a great, short game :P)

Not sure how well they do in terms viewership but would love to see your reactions to lore videos, I think Vaati only did a handful of Prepare to Cry videos on DS2 so you could probably cover them in one go. Hope you've been recovering well!
