Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Part 3!

I'm struggling with this episode haha. I am in need some feedback! I was a bit tired by the end of recording it and I think it shows, and I'm thinking of cutting it up more than I have as I don't think it's engaging enough to be over three hours long but I am too low energy in the second half for it to be a separate episode hahaha. If any of you out there are up for watching a three hour video, let me know your thoughts!πŸ˜…

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Part 3!

Comments

I just finished the shorter video, very well edited and fun to watch, I loved the "my camera!" moment! It just got a little tedious with all the early exposition dialogue (I wish you kept the Japanese VA). Thanks for sharing your exploration plans at the end even if you end up straying from them. I assume this is where the game really opens up, so I'm excited to see the next few episodes.

Really enjoying your playthrough so far! It’s interesting to see how different people approach the game in terms of what to do first and what to prioritize. Your love of the franchise is endearing. I enjoyed the longer runtimes & getting to see you really take your time and explore everything the game has to offer, I think that’s part of the beauty of a Zelda game. I agree with all the previous posts that the longer the better, even if it is a Patreon exclusive & maybe edited highlights for YouTube, but I hope you enjoy the rest of the game & I’m sure we will all enjoy watching!

Well said! I second your thoughts. Although now when I'm thinking about it, I'm wondering what is taking the most time when she's editing her footage. I like coming up with ideas, and optimizing things, and I wonder if perhaps we could suggest something that would speed up the process.

Veldaren

I personally wouldn't like the second option. Experiencing it with Amber is a part of the reason why I love to watch her videos so much. And I feel like that approach would split her experience into plain gameplay and commentary, and when you have that split it's not as enjoyable anymore. Plus, as you said, it would add extra work.

Veldaren

I've been thinking about suggesting the Portal games myself, if Amber hasn't played them. They lend themselves so well to blind playthroughs and do have a tendency to bring new viewers in.

Now you're talking... Symbalily Uncut channel = I'll double my patreon pledge 🀣

With a long game like Zelda Totk I think there are only 2 ways of doing it. Either leave most of it in, or make kind of like a montage or synapse where you talk over some of the footage where not much is happening and tell us where you have been what has happened. Second one is a lot of work though :D. Also, I dont know how it works with YT metrics.

otsoblub

Damn, now Portal sounds really good (even though I haven't actually played it myself). But it sure would be interesting to watch Amber play it

Veldaren

I quite enjoy the longer formats myself. I like watching streams a lot so seeing the "slow times" is not an issue at all for me. Not sure how the YT metrics will react to that length but my vote is leave more in. That also means less editing time for you and more play time haha. I'm about half way through right now (watching in between work calls. Shhh don't tell!). Watching you is very relaxing and fun. Plus the mix of excited squeals and giggles is fantastic. This video has my vote!

The longer the better, imo

I don't mind three hours myself, i tend to like longer videos.

I really do like the longer videos! As some have previously mentioned, the longer, the better. (Maybe even completely uncut versions as Patreon exclusives if it is too much for YouTube?) I also love watching your videos while working from home. They have absolutely perfect energy, cozy vibes, thoughtful insights, and they display so much joy for gaming that they have inspired me to play several of the games you have shown! With that said, I believe many here would agree that we are happy when you are happy. Ultimately, do what feels right to you!

K, I just finished it and really don't see the drop in energy in the second half you mentioned. Maybe at the very end, like the last ten minutes, but you seemed to be more concentrating on the shrine than anything. This is all totally new to me, so I'm interested in everything. Some of the NPC chatter got a little dry, but that's it, I was happy with everything else. I will say watching you go through the shrines makes me want to see you play the Portal games, but I bet you've already played them. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed it and your excitement is the best thing.

really liked the video! i agree with people saying that you're videos are good to chill to and they're great to have in the background. if you're worried about the length tho, i don't think it would hurt to lose some non-critical stuff like some korok seeds or maybe some shrines? i think you're good for now, but as the playthrough progresses it might make sense to cut stuff like that down a little as they don't have too much variety in them. i think you can do that without effecting the slow chill vibe much. maybe you could give it a go and see if you're happier with the result? at the end of the day, all that really matters is that you're happy with the videos that you're making cos that really shines through in the videos themselves but i'm totally ok with it staying how it is tho if you don't wanna interfere with the vibes too much, the videos so far have been really nice and chill and it's fun to see the beginnings of your adventure!

ChilledGricken

Seriously though if you find any part particularly slow or anything let me know and Ill chop it down! :)

Sym

I haven't watched it yet but honestly personally I like the longer videos gives me more content

Erin

I'm up for watching a 3h long video :) I may just need a bit more time to watch it, maybe in parts, as I don't usually have that much time to watch it in one go. That doesn't mean I won't enjoy it as much, though. A Short Hike is a good example, it was 3h long, I watched it in like 2 or 3 go's, but I really loved watching you play it all :)

Veldaren

A good way to cut it up might be to set a goal, then when you finish that goal you can choose whether to keep going or cut it for the video? It's a tad difficult because there's so many breadcrumbs to follow but I think shorter videos might be better for viewing, stress levels, and I think the algorithm recommends the videos when their ratio of engagement is higher. I noticed that when I was publishing on youtube a while ago that my shorter videos were getting pushed to newer audiences easier. Anyway, hope you're enjoying the game :) I'll watch this one a bit later.

Adam

Yeah definitely, I think it's the kind of game where a bit of peaceful wandering around with chit chat is just nice to watch. And if you feel you can get away with doing it, it'll save you some time editing too, so that would be a double winner and result in you being less tired for future episodes! πŸ™‚

Andy

Thank you!! I think I get worried sometimes because there are times like this episode where I am tired but am in the zone while playing so I am just sort of quiet and concentrating but then when I am editing I am like, how would this be entertaining I cant keep this in... But that's awesome to hear! I think I gotta find the right balance for this series! Of action, exploring, main quest, down time etc

Sym

hahaha thank you

Sym

I think you have a different perspective to me on what's engaging, personally I found myself thinking "the longer the better" for your first episodes, would've been quite happy for it to be uncut as you just wandered around discovering the world and the new mechanics. Your videos make for ideal background viewing while working, so I'm personally happy when they're on the longer side, a bit of downtime here and there is fine, I'm sure others have this opinion too πŸ™‚

Andy

3 hours? I scoff at your 3 hours. I say give me more! I'm going to get stuck in immediately.
