2023-05-12 15:23:45 +0000 UTCI also noticed that YouTube does not save where I'm up to in your videos, if I pause it to watch more later. Especially when I watch on my smartphone YouTube app. I probably told YouTube not to save my stats, in the privacy settings (?). I have been thinking that for the algorithm, it probably looks weird if I watch 30 minutes, then 20 minutes, then 40 minutes, etc. skipping around in the video to find where I'm up to. I end up watching the whole video over one or two days, but I don't know if YouTube registers it as a "full" view of the video.

And I'll do the same with Tears of the Kingdom too. I started watching you with Bloodborne, then watched Hollow Knight, and Outer Wilds, then went back for TLOU2. Personally what drew me into your videos was you attention to the details and problem solving. So I like watching you best play more puzzle or exploration type games. Even though Bloodborne isnt a puzzle game, it feels like it puzzle like elements (having to learn boss patterns and work out what to do and where to go etc) Would love to see you play things like Fez, The Witness, or Braid.

Don't stress that you have to play the big games or the new releases or whatever, the indie games are more fun to watch and discover anyway.

Been playing TotK all morning/afternoon and I'm loving it myself, and I keep thinking of how much you're going to enjoy this and some of the cheeky/inventive ways you're going to tackle the game. Looking forward to the rest of Dredge too, I started playing it and finished it after watching your videos and thoroughly enjoyed it. As always, take your time and enjoy the magic that is Zelda!

Plus people may just skip an hour long video when they see another one next to it that’s just 20 mins and they just don’t have the time/desire to spend that long. I appreciate hour long videos as well, but sometimes have to split them up as I have time and I don’t know if YouTube is penalizing them because of that. They think we lose interest when really, we just watch the rest later. I’m no YouTube marketing expert but I would think since “all” the most popular and full-time-job gaming channels stick to 15-25 min videos, there’s probably a reason. (At least on their main channels)

I'm curious, most people don't do 1 hour+ videos, and likely due to the pressure of how long you have to play, and then edit; have you considered going to a 30-45 minute format? Seems you could play for a few hours, and after editing, have 2 or 3 episodes ready to go from that one session. Thoughts? Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the longer vids, and try to always watch them in their entirety to help how I can with your analytics, but I'm sure a lot of people have to stop mid way because of life. I do know other content creators that stream on YT and just post the entire stream without editing. That might be something you want to consider to save yourself some extra work but still get some views up. Either way, I hope that no matter what you do, you are happy doing it. We will be here to support you no matter what

Going to watch that BOTW recap video, so I'm all ready for your playthrough. You're doing amazing, Amber. I hope you stick around for a while. Edit: I rewatched this and thought of something that might be helpful. So you mention getting lots of comments saying how relaxing watching your playthroughs are and that you might want to play more games in that style. Whilst that's all well and good, you also mention how the views haven't been up to snuff recently. So I wonder if you might be accidentally trying to cater to a minority of your subscribers. They are going to leave comments saying what they want because they are the ones watching whilst the majority isn't even watching or commenting, so you're not hearing their preferences. I mean your most successful series aren't those chill games, they're actually the pretty intense challenging ones. Sure, they have their relaxing moments, but even Hollow Knight is actually pretty full on a lot of the time. Now obviously the top priority is you playing what you want, so if you want to just play super laid back fish games, you go ahead. But I don't want you getting stuck in an echo chamber of people only telling you they want one thing and thinking that's everyone. You know what some of my favourite moments of your channel have been. You fucking up. Failing at a boss, having accidents, mishearing or misunderstanding things, having those 'messy' moments you keep being so worried about. To me that's where the true personalization of a lets play comes from because if everyone was perfect it'd be boring as hell. And then through improvement, it's where you, Amber, gets to shine. I hope that's not too rude and when I do laugh, I'm not laughing at you per se but just the scenario. I'm not pining for you to return to RDR2 but just as an example I still go back and watch you accidentally letting the guy fall off the cliff and playing poker because they make me bust a gut. I actually rewatched all the episodes recently, and now I'm replaying it after five years because of them. RDR2 is secretly an amazing slapstick comedy game hiding behind this veneer of a brooding macho western. Anyway I'm sure you've considered this already, and it probably flies in the face of other data you have like your GOW Ragnarok series, but I don't know, maybe something to think about. I've watched the BOTW recap video, it was very cool, so I'm all ready for you. All the best.

It was such a great playthrough, I really enjoyed watching you explore it! As for Zelda, I’m going to play it myself starting tonight, so I’ll be wary to watch a playthrough of it so soon. Would love some more OoT content, especially if you were to stream it. Current games though seems to always do worse when it comes to views; as you say, a lot of people will be playing them upon release. I’ve upgraded my Patreon tier to a custom pledge, hope that will help you out a bit more even if it isn’t much.

2023-05-11 20:42:37 +0000 UTCI’ve never been a Zelda guy to begin with but I’ll be watching that recap and then your TOTK videos because you offer a unique viewing experience when it comes to games due to your professional experience, your eye for detail and nuanced understandings of decisions and hints and secrets by the developers, and your overall personality and humor, which has recently been extra evident in your editing! All of the updates in this sound good to me but I’ll throw in my two cents about how ‘Return of the Obra Dinn’ would be a great choice for a future game for you. I’m not good at it because I don’t have the eye for detail and memory recall that you do but it’s definitely a unique game that seems rewarding for everyone that it did click with. Sucks you feel the stress and pressure of maintaining a channel and quality output, I’m sure it’s exhausting and long hours of work but I think you’re always great at it and look forward to whatever comes next! 💪🏼

It's always such fun to see games like that played from different perspectives. Also, yeah, Silksong being delayed, I won't pretend that I'm surprised, I was fully expecting it, I had 0 faith in Team Cherry to uphold the promise made by XBox, and I laugh at the face of those who believed it. Still, as much as I love Hollow Knight and am impatient de get my hands on Silksong, I think Team Cherry are incredibly unprofessional in their communication with their players.
