Subnautica Part 9

OK, now I am ready with my notepad for tips or advice for the next episode! Hahaha got too excited and filmed this before waiting. Had such a good time in the deep during this episode! I loved the horror and terror I felt lol.

Subnautica Part 9

Comments

You may have already done this, but a bioreactor may help you with your energy problems.

Trynacu2

Once I heard about part 3 I got super excited and made new files on both games lol

Pablo Santana

Ya know...Unknown Worlds is currently looking for game developers to start work on the next Subnautica game. Just sayen :-)

Rogue Variable

https://youtu.be/3ubI4mhv5u0 For all Subnautica fans who haven't heard the radio songs 😁 great Subnautica soundtrack

Pablo Santana

BTW, I believe when you die, the only things you lose are whatever you picked up since the last time you where at your base. At least on consul

Rogue Variable

I bet she beats the game on gameplay 15 lol I really hope Amber plays Subnautica Below Zero 👍👍👍 and bioshock lol

Pablo Santana

Nice episode! :) I didn't expect you to go so deep today; that was pretty cool. :) A few suggestions: I think you'll find the flashlight is much better for navigating/exploring wrecks/caves; the seaglide is great for moving fast, but not so much for moving though tight enclosed spaces. The compass can still be used to find your way back to that mysterious alien forcefield you found at 48:45. At 51:32, you looked in the direction of your base, and it was 1651m away in a direction that was slightly east of south. All you have to do is go back to a position where you're at that direction/distance, and then go straight down to a depth of 562m, and you should be right there. Along the same lines, at 1:23:14, when you're heading home the final time, you look at your base and it's directly southwest at a distance of 1514m away, so that will help you find your way back to that cave entrance, if that's where you decide to go. One last thing: I feel sorry for your poor little lone solar panel that is struggling to meet the power demands of a moonpool, battery charger, and water filter all at once. Perhaps this could be an opportunity to experiment with other power sources? :)

Tormuse

I’ve been falling asleep to the sound track for years now.

Rogue Variable

The first time a crab squid tried to eat my face off I don’t remember the word adorable coming to mind.

Rogue Variable

All the awesome music and sound design…it’s when everything drops…the silence that gets your attention. Good job, keep them coming please.

Rogue Variable

You should try and get the cyclops ASAP as it's a huge QoL upgrade for exploring deeper - for all sorts of reasons. The pieces aren't very deep, more like the depth of the mushroom forest than the toxic river, and I think you are only a couple pieces away iirc. It's very fun. 10/10 would sail again.

Chris DePrisco

I loved this episode! So much exploration and lore learned. 🙂 It is always fun seeing your reactions to the different biomes. I especially love the creepy music and spooky vibe of some of the deeper dark areas in this game!

Jade Raven

I really think you should upload the full videos here on Patreon and edit it for YouTube lol. You'd think people might not be interested in the full length video but I'd disagree. You should try it out 😊

Pablo Santana

I've decided I'll stop by the store on the way home to get some fish fingers to snack on and really immerse myself in the Subnautica experience! 😅 I'm excited to see you explore deeper and get to experience all the cool stuff down there for the first time!

Chris DePrisco

I laughed out loud when the Stardew Valley montage suddenly appeared. Boy did that hit me with some nostalgia & good vibes. So cool to see you explore a bit of the deep that Subnautica has to offer. Watching as you are juggling fear and dread with adventure and progress is great fun.

Your play through made me jump back in for another replay! Love this game! Even though it's rather large in inventory, the Propulsion Cannon is probably the most underutilized tool in the game, and incredibly useful in many circumstances. For one, while in the wrecks, remember those crates can be moved with the Cannon. I think there's a wreck where you have to move one to get into an area. But you can also use it as a weapon, you can pick up small rocks and hit baddy fish with it, or just grab nuisance fish like biters and shoot them into the ground/walls. Lastly, it's the easiest way to catch fish. Nice you have the reinforced dive suit now. You'll notice that those spiky plants that shoot thorns at you will no longer do damage, even though it still sounds like they do. All other things do less damage to you now too. I suggest trying the Bioreactor out, you now see the cost of energy use on your base's power resources. For where you are, the Bioreactor provides the best source of power for your base, and it's easy to make. Also, if you need to, you can create more than one to increase power reserves. Those blood pods are big, I suggest planting a few in an outdoor grow bed so they're readily available at your base, instead of taking up inventory space while traveling any distance. You had major trouble scanning some fauna at times because they move too much...if only there was a way to make them stay still for a moment, like put them into a temporary "Stasis", or something! 😋 You're doing great Amber! I'm excited to see what you do in your next episode!

Perry Wolf

@Perry : It's not even impatience in my case, just straight anxiety. Seeing her bonk her way in the alien base with the Seamoth is both hilarious and terrifying to see for me. It's an objectively factual information that at this point, she SHOULD have made the Prawn Suit, though. But fair enough, I removed that line. Not gonna lie, I'm also curious to see how far she's willing to go with the Seamoth. @Ben : I think saying it's a mobile-base isn't that spoilery. I personally never knew all the stuff you could do with / build within the Cyclops when I played the game the first time, and I wish someone had "spoiled" me by telling me to look into how much I could build inside it. Took me YEARS to see someone put a growbed and an actual bed inside, I was like "WHAAAAAAAAAAAT?!?". And I think it's also fair to say it because it's information available in the PDA. At this point, it's more like a reminder.

Goblinounours

I found the actual audio track they used for the ambient sound in the Northern Blood Kelp Zone: https://youtube.com/oZAGNaLrTd0

It never ceases to impress me how much variability is allowed between playthroughs of this game. I've played through fully twice, and started a third run, and there are so many things I've never used. For instance, you've gotten a bunch of comments telling you to use your flashlight, but like you, I ditched it right when I got my Seaglide. Others have told you to make the pathfinder tool, or the sonar upgrade for the Seamoth, and I've tried both and disliked them. You've also made the grav trap and that water filtration system, which I never did, and I think those are both great! My fourth upgrade slot for the Seamoth has always gone to the Perimeter Defense System. Getting it has always been what makes me feel safe when exploring. Banger episode after banger episode, you're killing it!

Ben

A few things you've said are kind of in soft-spoiler territory IMO. A lot of the fun is in not knowing what to expect when making your new vehicles! Edit: Your edits made the post much better, good work 👍

Ben

Not to pick on you Goblin, your tips are great, but avoid comments like "You should already have made both of the Prawn-Suit and the Cyclops by now.", we have no right to tell someone how to play their game, we're here to see how THEY play it, in their own unique way. And Amber's Let's Plays are awesome because of her chill attitude! Let not impatience guide your comments! 😊

Perry Wolf

Man, I am really loving this series. EDIT: First thing: never apologize for "playing sloppy" or missing things or whatever--that's what makes games like this so much fun. Anyways, on to some tips. - Don't let the whole infection thing rush your decision making--it's just part of the story and there's no time limit to worry about. - If you wanna do some in-depth wreckage exploring, bring some air bladders with you to top off your O2. You won't lose anything important if you die (tablets, ion cubes, etc.), but backtracking to pick up dropped items can be a pain. The flashlight/torch is also much better at lighting dark spaces and won't make you so fast that you're constantly bumping into things. - Bring at least one or two ion cubes with you when exploring alien structures. As you've discovered, tablets are essentially just keys for unlocking doors. Ion cubes, on the other hand... - If you've got resources to spare, prop up some FOBs in places you find yourself going to a lot. Bases don't have to be big and fancy, just a multipurpose room, a power source, and a hatch to get inside. Fill some lockers with food and water, some building materials, etc. so that you don't have to trek back to your main base any time you need to replenish your supplies. Over time, you can add scanner rooms to help find materials you're in dire need of (they each have a limited scan range). Entering a base will also update where you respawn if you drown or get eaten alive. - Like the previous tip, take those unused floating lockers from the start of the game with you and drop them along paths you frequently travel, near landmarks like wreckage sites, or alongside your beacons. Same as above, you can fill them with supplies that could help in a pinch. - The propulsion gun works on organics, too. Those annoying spider mobs that are all over the islands you've discovered and the Aurora? Yeet them into the ocean, paint the walls yellow with their blood, or just blast them through ring-shaped rock formations to score imaginary points--make a game of it, because they're awful little creatures that need slaying. - A fruit or vegetable's freshness only determines its effect on you when you eat it. Rotten flora can be stored indefinitely for planting, so if you've got stuff you want to farm but don't have the grow beds, don't worry, just cram them in a locker and use them when you're ready. That's all I've got for now. There are some other pointers I want to throw out there, but don't want to spoil anything, so I'll just eagerly await Ep. 10.

Andrew

Really enjoying your playthrough of this. It’s a fun ride. One of my top favourite games. My only minor hint is that you can increase your base integrity by adding reinforcement panels to the walls using the habitat builder.

Steve WF

Planter food is not really for carrying with you, but for filling up at home. The best routine is a row of marblemelons; eat 3, cut one with the knife, you get 4 seeds to replant the row. Then for trips you just use the heat knife, or bring cured fish if you're going somewhere without fish. In Below Zero there's some other food you unlock in the late game, IDK if they ported that back to the original game… Also, remember you still have a flashlight 😹 if you find it hard to swim inside wrecks with the seaglide (I know I do), carry the flashlight along instead. It also has better light. Oh, near the light stick there was *another* thing on the wall prompting you to scan 😅

Lalo Martins

The part that almost had me screaming at my screen from pure anxiety was in the episode where Amber went "I'm gonna go behind the Aurora", close to the Dead Zone, and close to the Leviathan hanging near the reactors. I was repeating "go away go away go away go away!" She has that weird blend of courage and foolishness to explore places that are super dangerous. ^^

Goblinounours

I can't believe you found 4 time caps. I only found 1 my first time playing. You might want to look at the settings and put on the 'pause wile in pda' option it will let you read and not lose air/food/water or get attacked.

NetWitch

Yayyy you've found the river! One of the coolest areas in the game Put a beacon at the big entrance to the river in the blood kelp area, it'll make your life easier. And from now on you should never leave your base without a couple of beacons and maybe alien tablets. Great video btw! I'm loving watching you play it ❤

Hudson Ornelas

this one stressed me out too, i liked it :D

otsoblub

Episode 1 - Scared to go 20m deep 😳 Episode 9 - GOING DEEPER THAN 500M 😨 Scientific Researcher Amber is a survivalist!

Pablo Santana

It is so fun watching how excited you get when discovering new things in the game. I'm really loving this playthrough❤

Amber, I hope you'll see this: • In the last third of the video, you've reached what players commonly refer to as "The Lost River" (the biome with the heavy green toxic gas). As much as it's baller to get there this soon, I would still advise against going further just yet! I would instead advise you to at least do some of the following things: • Make a Prawn-Suit as soon as you can! The Seamoth is NOT made to explore tight spaces like the Alien base you found near the end of the video. The Prawn-Suit is way more adapted for that sort of thing. • Try also to make the Cyclops, it's almost like a mobile base, you can build things inside (like growbeds and such). It's not made for tight spaces either, but it will offer you a way to have a nice rest-stop when exploring. You can entirely ignore it too. I'd say it's less important than the Prawn-Suit, but it's way cooler. • I believe you have a marker for a Degasi base in the Deep-Down-Dark-Deep-Down™ below 400-500m where there's lot of warpers and squid-crabs. It's important that you check every inch of that place when you find it! It has LOTS of goodies that you'll WANT. • Try to craft the Seamoth's Sonar upgrade. It will help you 'see' where you are better, especially when you go in the Deep-Down-Dark-Deep-Down™. • You can plant a lot more things in growbeds, like creepvines, gelsacks, etc. You can make as many as you want, even in the water around your habitat. Once a plant is fully grown, cut it with your knife and you should get more seeds to expand your plantation further. • If you plan on going back into the Deep-Down-Dark-Deep-Down™, NEVER LEAVE without beacons and alien tablets! Otherwise you'll have to make more frustrating back-and-forths. TRUST ME, you do not want to find yourself in front of a locked door without a tablet once you're deeper than the Lost River. • If your onboard AI ever tells you "you've entered the Ecological Dead Zone"... GET. THE. HELL. AWAY. It means you're out of the playable area. If you really wanna see what it is, bring nothing you're afraid to lose.

Goblinounours

If you find yourself without a beacon, you can use your compass to take a back-bearing on any known location (like your lifepod, another beacon you've placed, or one of the other lifepods). Each tick on your compass display is 7.5°, so you can get a pretty tight bearing from your current location. You can then add/subtract 180 from the bearing to get the bearing from that location to your current location. Note the distance and the depth, and it's pretty easy to find places again (to the extent that in my current playthrough which you inspired me to start, I'm roughly as far along as you, and have only made one beacon so far). Really enjoyed this video, and looking forward to the next one.

Alex B

I've been enjoying this series immensely so far, and this episode is no exception. I even started playing the game myself again, 'cause I never did quite finish it last time I played.

Trolez

Another tip. If you ever find yourself in another situation where you're worried about getting back to somewhere new you've found, and you don't have a beacon, if you can, swim straight up to the surface, take note of the distance you are from the escape pod and the exact direction. Like I'm 729 m away at a heading of NWWW. Then, when you've got back to the pod, you can just reverse the direction and match the distance, swim straight down, and you'll be where you left.

The Mighty Pipe

I did, several episodes ago. :p Great minds think alike. :D

Goblinounours

I think my only tip is that if you don't have anything for the fourth upgrade slot on your Seamoth, you can add another storage module. If you wanted, you could have four. It's really nice that you seem to be enjoying the game so much and enjoying YouTube again. The pace and consistency of videos coming out is really wonderful. I'm having a blast. Makes me want to play the game again.

The Mighty Pipe

Yes. Becoming addicted to these, lol.

sundmark67

That's funny haha

Sym

putting this on tonight after work. From the previous episode, I don't think you need any more hints. Keep doing what you're doing (apart from exploding more Seamoths, poor things)

Mark Robson

Hopefully someone hasn't done this joke already.

Vols and Jezuz

Was waiting for it with Patreon open in a tab!

Lalo Martins

New episode, ack-quired.
