Update!

Hey everyone! Happy new year! ☺️ A little update: I have finished the Outer Wilds DLC! I am currently editing on the move so things are a little slow but all the content is there! It was great. It was scary. It's going to be an interesting edit because a lot of it is, well, very very dark lol. There's a recording where I feel like I make no progress and then it all tumbles into place, it might be the next episode. If there's anything I've missed I will ofc revisit it and add it into the final video at the end but I've had to film in bulk for this one so I'm sorry if it feels a little messy or there was less interaction involved! I'm still not editing as fast as I would like to be but trying to be kind to myself because I've been moving all over the place over the holidays!

Gonna try something new this year and play a few first impression videos for you and then see if you'd like any turned into a series and ofc if I enjoy it! Thinking of trying Subnautica, which I'm under the impression of: is similar to Outer Wilds in discovery? But with crafting and the ocean lol. Curious to see if I'm into a crafting or survival game. The open world tag worries me a little ahaha. Also going to try a Fromsoft title - it's been too long since Bloodborne and I miss it. I don't know if I should just start at Dark Souls or, I've recently seen a clip of a boss from Dark Souls 3 and my face was pretty much like 😧😍 What others should I consider? Thought about giving Hades a go since people seem to love it but I'm not sure if that will be a good backseat watch!

I'm into the look of Black Myth: Wukong and ofc, SILKSONG for this year, although the thought of playing new releases now give me anxiety ahaha.

Here are some photos of some bits and bobs from my holidays! My dad got a puppy who is the sweetest thing, he didn't name it for weeks (!!) and now my brother has called it Cosmo. He just lived on my lap when I visited. Absolute sweetheart.

I visited a friend for new years and got to see a really awesome view of all the fireworks! They looked so small from high up, all I could think of were the far off supernovae in Outer Wilds haha.

Walton has been the best boy, this was his perch for his stay while we were at a friend's:

He kept me company throughout the travelling up and down the UK. He's been extra fluffy and cuddly which has been a really lovely change from the mayhem he usually likes to bring to my life lmao. Still can't stop stealing my socks though 🙄

I'll see you with the next episode of Outer Wilds soon!

Update! Update! Update! Update! Update!

Really? That’s a surprise! I did have to get used to the slower pace as well though! :)

Huib Gelling

Less difficult? I thought that was the hardest one. Easy bosses but just getting through the levels is so hard. Unless you go super slow and methodical, but then it's just dull. I suggested she do DS3 as it's the closest in gameplay to Bloodborne.

That's so exciting! I will be watching all of these playthroughs; I've been especially excited to watch you finish the Outer Wilds DLC for sure.

I commented earlier about Subnautica and I do think it would be a really enjoyable watch, but at the end of the day the thing that matters most if is you are enjoying it. That is what I enjoyed so much from your Hollow Knight playthrough, the fact that you could hardly stop gushing about this & that as you explored. Hades is a fantastic game that is almost certainly worth trying, but due to the nature of the game, it will be a different viewing experience. That doesn't mean bad by default. I think you would enjoy it. Happy New Years & Here's to a great 2023 !

Happy New Year, Amber! Would start with Demon's or Dark Souls. Also, your OoT-Videos were great!

Marc Werner

I reckon go for Dark Souls remastered first, that was my first fromsoft game Just know ahead of time that the DLC is good, but can't go back to do once you've hit the credits (unless you backed up the save file) so gotta do it before the end.

Johno3998

Very cute images and life news! I'd suggest going with Demon's Souls remake first, I haven't played it myself, but I personally think the best way to experience FromSoftware's titles from the past decade or so is it do it as much as possible in order of release, that way you get to see how things evolve, what inspired what in a later title, callbacks and references, and also the older the game usually the more janky it is mechanically, so I think it's better to get it out of the way first, so that you don't go from a really mechanically comfortable game to a more janky one and not be able to handle it. I've personally only played Dark Souls 1 so far, which absolutely amazing and definitely the best game I've played in my life, so I wouldn't watch a Demon's Souls playthrough yet, but I'm sure many would.

EpsilonSoul

If you’ve got your eyes on a Fromsoft game, maybe Demon’s Souls Remake (if you have a PS5) might be a good pick. I found it a lot less difficult and it’s shorter than the others. I’ve never played/seen a playthough of Dark Souls 2, so I’m going to selfishly request you play that haha 😋

Huib Gelling

I would recommend skipping straight to Dark Souls 3. It plays much more like Bloodborne and DS1 and 2 haven't aged well.

Code: Marla

Do you have any plans for more Tunic? I recently started and I feel like Im right at the end now. That game really goes places. Got Outer Wild vibes as well as Fez, and obviously Zelda,

Code: Marla

Really looking forward to Subnautica, so I hope you try it and like it. I found it such a stand-out gem of a game when I played it a couple of years ago. Definitely a game that I love to watch new players get into.

Excite! Can't wait for a good long outer wilds ep! Would watch a Subnautica play through. Stay healthy! Love your content!

James Newman

So glad to see you focusing on your mental health! That's the most important. You're such a sweetheart and don't deserve a lot of the crap you've encountered from your channel. I saw/watched the videos but was busy/sick myself and neglected to add a comment. I love the idea of fielding content to see what sticks. I would recommend doing God of War Ragnarok again. I feel like people's attitudes during the holidays are so much more entitled, plus with a lot of traveling and people visiting family, a lot of people may have neglected or not had time to watch. And finally I would say ignore the metrics but I know you gain income so they are important. But I wouldn't take anything personally or as a statement about you as a person. We all love you here so you've got a support system along with your family. Great to see a bit of your holidays! Can't wait to see the rest of outer wilds!

PassHerBy

I'm what some might call a "filthy casual" when it comes to FromSoft games (i haven't played any, but i've watch quite a bit of most of them). But I second your reaction to DS3. If I could only play one DarkSouls game it would be 3, purely based on the aesthetic/themes/vibes. Subnautica is also an excellent choice.

Adding my own +1 to Subnautica to the pile of votes you have here. Also I think doing a few first impressions videos to vibe check new games is a great idea. Glad it seems like you had a nice holiday!

Ben

Hi, yes I'd also like to RSVP for Subnautica. I think you'd really enjoy it, and would make for a great series. I was really attracted to the discovery/exploration, but I was a bit weary about the crafting/base-building aspect. It turned out to be a very rewarding game all around and I was worried for nothing. If you haven't yet, I'd like to recommend taking a look at Spiritfarer. It's a beautiful title, great music, unforgettable characters -- a real game for the soul. Even if you didn't record it, you should check it out sometime. Though I'd love to watch your journey if you did! Can't wait to see the rest of Outer Wilds, and whatever's in store for 2023. Glad you had a great holiday, Happy New Year!

Eric Calvert

Happy new year! hope you're having a great time. Hades will definitely be a blast, it's a great game to watch, and there's a ton of story I think everyone would love to watch you analyzing and reacting to. also, it's a great game, and I'm sure lots of people already played it and would have no problem watching a playthrough. About new releases, I would probably be cautious about it, from my experience people take time to play games, and seeing a game they want to play and haven't yet, would just push the series aside and I'm not sure people remember to come back and watch it, of course not all of them at once. so I would give these games at least 2-3 months before playing or uploading them.

suitrs

Glad to see you enjoying your adventures! Dark Souls is clunky compared to its successors, but the feeling it elicits as you adventure is unmatched, and the clunkiness has a certain charm to it. Dark Souls 3 is more similar to Bloodborne in terms of the pace of combat. Faster, favors dodging. But whatever you play, we'll be happy, so thank you!!! I think Subnautica is a great choice as well

David Langston

Glad to hear you had a nice xmas/new year! I would love, love, LOVE to see you play Subnautica! While it is technically open world, it has a semi linear plot and the game does a really good job of guiding inexperienced players, so don't worry that you'll get stuck or anything. It also has really rewarding exploration and a very cool mystery element.

LittleFurnace

I’m so glad I finally joined your Patreon – glad to be here! I agree with many others that Subnautica would be an excellent game for you to try out. It’s a beautiful game with a lot of depth (pun not intended ^^) and lends itself well to Let’s Plays.

Marcel Génetay

Dark Souls and Dark Souls 3: Yes! Hades: Yes! Subnautica: Yes! Pictures of puppies and sock-stealing dogs: Big Yes!

Thiago Barros

Thank you for the update, it sounds like you've had a great time taking a break! It's good that you have so many ideas, more first impressions videos sounds like a good way to get back into a good groove. Very excited to see the rest of your Echoes of the Eye playthrough. Once again I'd like to suggest/request a "Game Developer reacts to Outer Wilds Documentary" video; it would be really neat to hear your thoughts on the crazy development the game had.

Flukemarm

Looks like you had a great Christmas & New Year's. I could never get into Subnautica, just not my type of game. I would at least play DS1 before DS3 because of the references. DS2 isn't really necessary, and it's also pretty bad in my opinion.

Neil Hanson

Walton best boy. I'd recommend streaming Hades rather than a playthrough. Rogue-lite/likes are very hard to do playthroughs for. Hope you like Subnautica. I wouldn't call it similar to Outer Wilds but there are some opportunities for discovery. But do what you think you will enjoy! Happy New Year.

Adam

What a nice post. Subnautica is a great choice, it is similar to Outer Wilds but also very different. If I had to pick a Fromsoft game, I'd go with Sekiro just because it's got my favourite combat out of all of their games, and it feels much brisker, but I'd totally be down for a DS3 or Demon's Souls playthrough. Demon's Souls would be relatively much shorter, if that helps you to decide at all. Thanks for the update, I am dying to see the rest of the Echoes of the Eye videos.

The Mighty Pipe

Congrats on completing the DLC! Glad to hear you're doing well, I'm not too familiar with which Soulsborn would be best to tackle but I did really enjoy playing Dark Souls 3. I think Subnautica is a great idea too! If the survival aspect seems a bit overwhelming, there is a freedom mode which removes hunger and thirst. Looking forward to the videos!

Ethan Micallef

I think you are thinking of Wo Long; Wukong is by a chinese srudio called Game Science! Both very interesting games to look out for though

van der Lark

Happy new year Amber, all the best to you and yours! Will definately watch Subnautica, and can't wait to see no matter which Fromsoftware game ;) I think it has to be either DS1 or DS3, with 3 just being more refined in terms of gameplay (and obv graphics), but both worth it and fun! And then obviously there is Sekiro which is just a masterpiece. And Silksong is obviously the highlight for 2023 ;) Glad to see you were able to enjoy your break, love the doggos ^^ stay safe

van der Lark

My vote would be the new team ninja game “Wulong”

Nicholas Renaud

Glad to see you got some good time off for the holidays! Subnautica is fun, I recommend it. I think I mentioned it before but Cult of the Lamb seems like it could be fun. I've only watched a tad of the gameplay but listen to the soundtrack to go to sleep sometimes. It looks cute. Looking forward to seeing the rest of Outer Wilds, too!

Chris DePrisco

Really looking forward to the next outer wilds video! I think Subnautica would be a great game to let's play. I also would love to see you return to a from software game. Really all of them are so good.

Dylan

Big yes to Subnautica. Love that game.

Mark Robson

happy new year! glad you're taking your time to edit and be kind to yourself! (also those pics of Cosmo and Walton are absolutely precious) i would love to see dark souls 3, it honestly doesn't really matter what order you play them in; i played it first and don't feel like it had a negative impact on my enjoyment of the other ones at all. it has the best bosses in the whole series in my opinion, really worth playing!

ChilledGricken

Also above all, do what you think will be fun!!

Carrie Ware

If you want to play dark souls, definitely start with the first, dark souls 3 has a lot of direct references to it that will make playing ds3 first confusing. Dark souls 2 is technically in the same world but is almost entirely separate. Hades is a fantastic game, it's my favorite so I personally like watching others play it, but since it's a rogue-like it's a bit of a long haul to play (And i of course think you should play elden ring but that is also a long long game. And I think it could make moving back to something older like ds1 feel weird and more janky than it really is)

Carrie Ware

Happy new year! Glad you seem to have had a lovely time during the holidays! ^_^ Egads, Cosmo is absolutely adorable. (As is Walton, of course!) Editing on the move is always so much trickier than doing it at home, so I think it's completely understandable that it's taking longer. Excited to see the rest of the Outer Wilds DLC! I personally think that the whole "getting stuck on something and working through it so you eventually have everything fall into place" is one of the great joys of the game, but I definitely see how some people find it frustrating as well, haha. If you're gonna have a go at Dark Souls, I think both 1 (Remastered) and 3 are great starting points, since you won't really be missing much in the way of story, it's more references to things from the first game you might miss if you start with 3. The first one feels a bit clunkier combat wise than the third as well, which might be something to take into account if you really enjoyed Bloodborne since it's such a fluid game. Also, I know that I would personally love to see a Hades series, it's one of my favourite games of recent years and I've spent hours upon hours watching other people play it as well, haha. Wishing you all the best, I relate a lot to the whole anxiety thing but hopefully Silksong will be familiar enough to overcome that a bit perhaps! <3

W. W. Wiklund

please keep staying kind to yourself! we'll be here waiting as long as we need for whatever you choose to play. i'm so sad Outer Wilds will come to an end soon, but I'd LOVE to see a dark souls play through!
