Hey, very passionate Undertale fan here! You have nothing to fear, the horror stories are from back in 2015-17 when the community was blown out of proportions. It has very much died down (you're safe). I don't know how much you know of this, but you've gotten through the ruins. Markiplier was unfortunate when he... played the game the "intended" way, aka, he used the different options. The toxic side of the community got upset that he even dared to pick "fight" instead of only "mercy". Which again, is the intended way to play trough it for your first run. To use both. It sucks that you have to head in to this wonderful game with that fear of a toxic community, but you honestly just add to the value of *ANY* game you play. You're such a wonderful person, and I can't wait for more!

Don't worry about "not doing things right." The only thing you can do "wrong" is look things up without playing through the game first. It's hilarious how, because of Flowey's betrayal, you had such distrust for Toriel even though she was being so nice to you the whole time. Looking forward to the next Act!
