What games are next?

DS2 "discourse"/the divided opinions are confusing the heck outta me and I really don't want that kind of divisiveness on the channel right now (or ever really but I do want to play it so its confusing :(). I am taking a break from Souls until November/December time.

Here's the plan for content that I am setting in stone:

October: Resident Evil series month.

The games appear linear and I think I need that right now. I am going to start filming now to get at least one game pre-filmed for October. Preferably two games, I have chosen to start with RE2R and RE4R as they were the most voted for in the poll. Can anyone give me a heads up on the length of those and if that seems reasonable? If I like the series, I will try RE1R and RE3R one day! I just don't know if anyone will really be interested in seeing that from me/if I will click with the game so we will see!

There are a couple of puzzle and mystery games I am interested in. (Examples: Observation Duty, The Room series, Return of the Obra Dinn, Painscreek Killings) which may pepper throughout October and November. If I can film ahead for Youtube in October, I will have some evenings free for streams, finally! Twitch streams for bite sized games. Youtube streams? Honestly no clue. Maybe I could finally finish Alien Isolation and remove that anxiety off of myself haha. Please don't feel obligated to sub on either of those platforms! I just want to see what its like.

When I finally decide on Dark Souls 2, I will hopefully be able to start uploading it during November at the earliest, December at the latest. Fingers crossed I can film ahead and be consistent with it. I am going to take some time off in November though, so a heads up on that.

For now, I am just going to put my head down and start filming. TOTK will be slow as always, hopefully I will be able to upload the latest ep tomorrow. I tried a game in my own time: Alice Madness Returns. I will create a post with the link to the first part of it to see if any of you are interested in it too - I really dig it. I love "older" games. I like the creativity and the charm of them. Honestly I am in a baad, bad headspace with the games industry at the moment which is really messing with how I feel about newer games. Anyway that will be all for September: Alice (possibly, I really don't know if you all will dig it too) and TOTK. Perhaps I will publish that Observation Duty episode on YouTube to soft launch the October horror lol. I really liked that game.

That's my barebones plan for the rest of the year really. Thanks for reading and for the support!

Late to the convo (new to the patreon :) ). Came for the Souls. Loving the REmake series. Going 2-3-4 for the remakes is much less controversial than Dark Souls 2. The main reason many people were dissatisfied with 3 was that it wasn't long enough! Ironically, the complaints they received about the game dissuaded the company from adding an expansion. The RE community really shot itself in the foot on that one. Anyway, I personally loved it and I think you will too. It brings a great deal of depth to an important series character (Jill Valentine), and is very fun and well made. The game takes place at the same time as RE2. It also fits perfectly in between the gameplay styles of 2 (more horror) and 4 (more action). You do you, as always.

You should look into Inscryption. It's a super cool game and would fit thematically with spooky season coming up.

This spookalily game season thing you got planned sounds ace! Some top tier games in that list above, looks like a fun couple of months ahead! Shame to hear about things affecting your thoughts on newer games. Here's hoping that improves, but even more reason to play the games you want right? That first episode of Alice was fun too. Would be up for watching more if you decide to play on!

If you are trying horror, I will throw my one recommendation behind SIGNALIS. It is not just good horror, but one of the best most unique games released in the last 5 years

Thomas Mc

I can recommend the page howlongtobeat.com to assess game lengths.

Trolez

Any plans on continuing the game Tunic for which you did a one-off some time back? It gets more and more interesting the further you get in and I'd highly recommend you revisit it some time!

Everything you mentioned sounds great! Never heard of The Painscreek Killings, so I had to look it up, but that looks like it could be cool too

Ds2 is great, gets a bad rap for some reason even though I personally find it to be the best souls game of the series. it's less a boss gauntlet (although can be challenging depending on your approach) and more story heavy told through lore item descriptions. It's less directly connected to ds1 although has some call backs if you pay attention. Its a bit longer than ds1 but in a way I say its a lot like Majora's Mask, not only in how its laid out, but just certain similar feelings. There is an easy to use lighting engine mod that really beautifies the game, making it easily probably the most beautiful Fromsoft game I've played. seeing the recent playlists you've shared, I'll have plenty to watch up my alley for the while between now and when you get back into souls series.

Looking forward to the resident evil playthroughs, those are some of my favorite games ever!

Hellblade is a good short, dark game, probably shorter than Ori

*chanting* O-bra-Dinn, O-bra Dinn, O-bra-Dinn

First off, absolutely play Obra Dinn (it is 100 on a scale out of 10). I would highly suggest doing it as an edited one-off. You absolutely need to go in as blind as possible, and you should avoid back seating entirely. Also, the art style is hell on bit rate and will end up looking awful if artifacts start to show up in the encoding. That being said, it is a challenging puzzle game, so be prepared to spend a lot of time feeling "stuck." Secondly, don't let people make you avoid Dark Souls 2. It isn't a perfect game, and it went through development hell. However if it wasn't called "Dark Souls" people would have less aggressive hate for it. You're going to hear complaints if you play it or not. So if you want to play it, you should play it for yourself and ignore what other people have to say. The biggest flaw with DS2 is that FromSoftware / Bandai thought they could make a few bucks off the success of DS1 without understanding what makes DS1 such a masterpiece to the people who love Dark Souls. DS2 is a better game than essentially every non-FromSoft Souls-like. No question. Just keep in mind that DS2 is a much longer game than DS1, and Adaptability is essentially an undocumented mechanic that you must understand or you will get very frustrated with the combat. The extra content from the Scholar edition is entirely optional, doesn't really give you anything, and if you feel frustrated by it, trust your gut and just skip it entirely. It isn't like DS1 with how Oolacile fills out the backstory and has some of the best bosses in the series. Hope this helps!

My channel was hit with a big copyright wave recently :( God knows what happened! Had to remove loads including Abzu. Thank you for reminding me I completely forgot about addressing it! Here is a link to Edith: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kb8hjyKT_mU&list=PLxHhV3NungnBkrUbECt8ZPuPhkWDjwMEY&ab_channel=Symbalily

On another note, is there a reason some of your playthroughs have been made private? Hopefully not any negativity in the comments. Your Edith Finch playthrough is how I found your channel so I was a little bummed I couldn't give it a rewatch.

I'm excited to see you play through Alice. I tried the first game some 20 years ago and never got into it, but I love those old platformers and mid 2000s art design. And I'm very happy Obra Dinn is working its way up your list, any excuse for me to listen to the soundtrack again!

Flukemarm

DS2 is a fine game. There are a few parts I find particularly trolly and not fun, but they don’t detract from the overall experience for me. But someone else may weigh those instances more heavily and define the game by its worst moments. Fans of the game have been put on the defensive time and again. But the internet takes these small disagreements and removes the civility filter to turn them up to 11. Looking forward to some resident evil!

RE2R is about 8~10 hours I believe, RE4R is a bit longer, probably around 15~20, but it all depends on how long is spent wandering around and finding things :) Return of the Obra Dinn is amazing! The Room is cool, pretty short as well, so long as you figure out the puzzles haha. Can't wait to see a few of them on stream! Alice is something that i've also played a long time back and seem to remember it actually being pretty good. A weird twisted version of the fairy tale with a stabby Alice. I'll definitely watch that as well Don't be afraid to start DS2(SotFS) whenever you feel like it. While it might not be the best game in the souls franchise according to many (including myself) it's still a fun game. The way you play through games will make it more interesting anyway, as you seem to really get invested into the world, which is great. For me, basically, here to watch you have fun and play games, even if the game isn't really for me. All in all, sounds like some solid upcoming content!

b0n3man

I would be thrilled if you resumed Alien: Isolation, but of course, I support whatever content you choose to go with. Keep on keepin' on.

Ryan Williams

oh. my. god. i am so excited for resi month!! both of those are fairly average in terms of single player games, i'd put them at around last of us 1 length maybe?? kinda depends on the player, they're so good tho i hope you like them! no worries about dark souls 2, if you wanna play it, then you should, if you don't then that's ok too! you should just do what you feel like doing, there are so many conflicting voices in a large community that trying to make everyone happy is just impossible, it sucks :( streams also sound awesome! looking forward to that wherever you decide to do it! you're doing an amazing job and this plan sounds awesome! thank you for all your work and thank you for the update!

ChilledGricken

Another note, I actually very much enjoyed Dark Souls 2. It's not perfect but I certainly had fun

Dorkenmore

I'm super stoked for resident evil. If I'm honest I'm pretty much good with whatever you would find enjoyable to play and edit for. I want to say that my first resident evil 2 remake playthrough took 7-8 hours but I tend to play RE games slowly. Be aware that many will ask for a second "B" playthrough of the character you don't pick first for RE2R since it does have some unique story content so whether you plan on doing so might impact your "playthrough" time on the game. Cheers!

Dorkenmore

Ooh Alice Madness Returns nicce! I highly rate Return of the Obra Dinn I played it recently, it's nice and (relatively, like sub 10 hours?) short

Johno3998

DS2 may be flawed but I probably had more fun playing it than any of the others. Also highly recommend Obra Dinn
