i think they are in a non monogamous relationship, not necessarily open but like… they have the freedom to create whatever rules they feel comfortable with, and that the beauty of it.

It's not quite an open relationship in that they play separately with others, but seem content with consensually inviting others into bed with them. No matter the label, as long as they communicate honestly about interests, etc., it should be good.
