The Avatar might be one of the biggest plot armors in history in most forms of media, but I don't believe Amon is using the same ability as Aang does when taking away bending. While Amon is physically taking away bending, I believe the avatar is taking it away more spiritually. Furthermore Amon has yet show he knows exactly how to take airbending away yet at all never having done the technique to an airbender, maybe furthering his reason for being so hesitant to attack the air nomads sooner to begin with. Now granted I don't want to give the writers too much credit, with how the majority of the season was, but I digress. love the series.
