Thank you all very much for watching.

Overanalyzing Avatar: Sozin's Comet, Part 4 - Avatar Aang

Comments

one thing "hello future me" said that stuck with me about Aang VS Ozai that at the first part Aang is the protagonist running away from Ozai the antagonist- his goal was to defeat the fire lord without killing him and Ozai was not up to that. At the second part the avatar state was the actual antagonist, chasing Ozai with murderus intent thus not going toward the goal of defeating the fire lord without killing him. so at that point Aang needed to overcome the avatar state to reach his goal.

This is the last episode of the series and I really enjoyed it, so I'm joining the Patreon for this one to give back, thank you very much!

This was a really great series, something to. look forward every week, thank you for doing this! It was a fun ride.

Dunno if anyone else noticed, but when Azula is thrashing and breathing fire, you can see the fire melt some of the water Katara had used. I love how appreciative of the small details this series has made me. I've actually gone back and started to rewatch other shows to enjoy the subtle details that make everything feel alive and connected. Loved following this along till the very end.

It has been an honor to support in this.

I have a theory, everytime we've seen Aang leave his Avatar state, he tumbles down, the more the story progressed the more control he gained when leaving the avatar state, i think this has direct correlation with how much he has mastered the 4 elements. Everytime he entered the avatar state he gave up most of his control, i think he gives up his control to the instincts of his previous lives and often it's in life or death scenarios that it happens, just like when he turned into Roku. In this last episode, when leaving the avatar state, he stands upright and tall, as he had complete control over his avatar state, he was the one controlling all the elements, not the previous avatars because he had mastered the elements. So yes, in my opinion, he did have full control when fighting Ozai in the avatar state.

Gotta say man these videos and everything you have done for them are absolutely amazing. I’m not an og fan of avatar and in like 2020 is when I first watched it ( binging it in three days). And I was absolutely blown away by everything in it, and it left me exactly how you said it did, wanting more. When your end of book one episode popped up on my home tab, I instantly knew that this is what I wanted. Little did I know that your show would not only give me more avatar, but also infinitely more brain bending moments than I could ever ask for and it goes without saying but we thank you for giving us the “more” that we wanted. Even with my late viewing experience of avatar I still learned a lot from it, and you helped me to understand the show both as a whole and how it plays into real life. Not only are your videos filled with knowledge and inspiration , they are also very funny and endlessly enjoyable to watch. I can’t thank you enough for both helping me personally through rough times we all experienced in 2020-2022 , but also giving the satisfaction that knowing how absolutely amazing ATLA actually is. I will always watch your channel and all the videos to come and I wish you the best.

Tearing up watching this last episode. You wrapped it up beautifully, and maybe it's half you and half the episode doing the emotion heart string tugs, but damn, I'm thankful for you doing this show. I rewatch Avatar all the time, but it's even better now. Thanks man.

i remember like a year or two ago i had the idea of making avatar videos and going through each episode but i was already busy and was worried no one would see it. your journey from doing it as a hobby and building it into everything you have has really inspired me to attack the next video idea i had because someone out there might like it and ill get better as i go

Would never have thought to support a creators patreon until your account. Thanks for all the entertainment:)

Okay, I’m now watching avatar aang because I NEEDED to watch him casually brush off Ozais attack, but now I’m thinking about something else- how STOKED do we think Pakku was during the White Lotus events? This is a man who for the last two years has always woken up and chosen violence. He mostly got an outlet for that with tormenting students and women, and then he defended the North Pole. But in this episode, he is unfettered, with no mercy. He is on the offense, and he has no reason or need to hold back. Mans is unleashing 50 years of emotion on these roided up firebenders.

The only other show to hit me like avatar did has Been league of Legends Arcane but that show isn't over yet so we will have to see.

Thank you for the passion you have put into your series. I love how you can get serious when you need to, but also can crack some hilarious jokes, kinda like the show. I wish you the best in your future endeavors. As for the finale, while I agree stories do sometimes need things to just line up, I think it was a mistake for there to be two factors that work towards helping Aang. I think either the Lion Turtle or his return to Avatar state should have been woven into the show organically

That seems to be the implication, but did he really let go of earthly attachments if he then marries Katara? Also, why is he the only avatar that needs to do the guru thing to master the avatar state?

I think my shout-out got cut :( Because normally you read off the rest of the names at the end if you don't grant them a compliment title that week.

I always had a head canon that when Aang got rock poked back into the avatar state, he entered that weird cosmic version of himself where he had to decide once and for all if he was going to let go of his earthly attachments. This time, with the fate of the world on the line, he watched not just Katara, but all of his friends fight for their lives. He decides that, yes, it is for the best for him to let go, and he masters the avatar state just in time to stop himself from killing Ozai

Couldn’t wait for the final two I’m so impatient lol. Thank you for the amazing series! I hope your passions for the channel and life carry you far friend (:

I just had to patron knowing the finale was out! Congratulations on completing your passion project! Time to find your next one. =]

thank you man it’s been an absolute honor to experience this series

Jed Cohen

The first episode I watched of your videos was The Drill. Thank you for putting all of this together and I can't wait to see what else you have in store.

Cyanoodle

You cut off at the end toph saying it looks perfect. First word of the series is "Its" and the last is "perfect" I always loved how that worked out :)

Felix Elliott

Fine work my friend. This series has been incredible. Thanks for giving me videos to look forward to. I'll be sticking around for what you cook up next :)

Evan Mitchell

Thank you for this series, just like you this show is incredibly important to me for more reasons than just being a good show. Nice to have that in common

Bravo! I'm so glad you took the time to point out the small, intricate details of the show to show appreciation for it. I would love to get this to Mike and Bryan or anyone in the Avatar crew to see their wok be this magnified and praised.

ADLegend21

Thank you for making this series of course like many others i subscribed to get the last two episodes early but this trip has been really fun I cant wait to see what you do in the future!!!!!

i think he wouldve gained control over avatar state midway through the fight

FingerSizedToes

Amazing series! Thank you!

This episode always hits me right in the feels. You killed this series in so many ways. Hit all the right notes for me.

Thank you OA This is the show that made me make a Patreon just so I could watch more. I remember when I first found your OA video on YouTube , The storm and I had to go back and binge watching every other video. Thank you for putting some much work and effort into this. I can see how much you love the show and I think everyone else can to. Avatar is still my favorite show and it’s great to see someone love it like I do and spread that love to others. So once again, Thank You

I love how the last video has a 6-minute ending, I think it's really fun to see all the people who ended up supporting you in making this. This has been a good series, thank you OA.

Nick Kaipainen

Decided to go ahead and sub on here for the finale, I just couldn't wait! Thank you so much for the content, can't wait to see where you go from here!

Thank you for making this series ! it was a great run hope to see more cool stuff come from you dawg!

I jumped here after watching this since book one. I adore your work man. Thanks for all the content it was a great ride.

Thanks

Professor_Cube

The ending where aang gets the avatar state would end up being alot less controversial if they just removed the rock entirely. Him simply being slammed back into the rock and unlocking the avatar state just seems like the less deus ex solution

I still remember when your Video about The Library Episode got recommended to me. I loved it, I really love talking about shows, books, etc. that I love so much with other people, but I don't really have anyone to do that most of the time. Thats why I fell in love with your videos to hear someone talk about a show he loves as much (prob more) than I do. After I seen the first video, I binged every one that you made to that point and was always excited when a new one came out. I think I watched every video of you more than I watched the actual episodes. So long story short, ty for this amazing ride and the great company you provided me, im excited to see what comes next <3

Man why the hell am I tearing up

We can’t wait to see what you’re up to next!! Loved stumbling upon your early videos and we have been fans since, sharing it wherever I can. Thank you for such an amazing series.

I actually read the comic just to know where tf his mother is.

Flameo sir, flameo. I cannot describe the gratitude and grief that I feel now that this is over. Its the same feeling I get whenever I finish another rewatch of Avatar: I wish there was more, forever, but I'm glad things have wrapped up as well as they have. I look forward to what you do in the future. As long as I have a little money, some of it is going to this Patreon. Thank you OA.

Wool

Its cool, Aang has been the one to initiate kissing up to this point. And the creators mention in the commentary of this episode they would not have had the animation done any other way than this - with katara leaning in for the final kiss. And even before the kiss, they began playing the regular ending theme almost to leave the audience in a cliff hanger, wondering if Aang and Katara ever were in fact going to get together, but then pulled back to a close up of Aang and Katara, while playing the cave of the two lovers song before she kisses him. Pure Art.

NE R

So I don’t know if this is 100% true so don’t take what I say seriously but I think Mike and Brian said that they were talking about making a 4th season (my guess would be stories from what was mainly seen in the comics) which M Night said they should do with Bryke saying to put more focus behind the live action movie, again I’m not 100% sure if this is true I read it from an article years ago and I don’t remember where it was from so I could be wrong

Deadpool

i discovered this series of videos by accident and i am so happy that i did also when i first saw an ad for avatar back when it came out i thought wow this looks so DUMB but then i saw the kioshi warriors episode christmas day and i fell in love

matthew james Stromberg

Fun animation fact with that first person perspective of Ozai it’s not fully CG but 2D cutouts with a 3D camera flying around it

Deadpool

You're not in a tier to have your name in the video.

complete cannon

Man, I can't believe the Avatar line is wrapped up. I'm looking forward to where you go next :)

Marcus Davis

For the avatar state sequence, I always imagined that aang's skills, thoughts, and experiences were still there in the mix, but that at this point there are so many past avatar spirits, now all moving in concert, that aang's own personal identity was like a drop in the ocean, lost in the unity of the collective avatar consciousness, and it was only when They were about to kill ozai that aang himself managed to pull through.

I can't find my name. I'm so disappointed.

fucking goosebumps, I cant' thank you enough for putting this thing together. Just like avatar, overanalyzing helped me get out of my anxiety attacks, times that i felt very alone and all different problems I experienced throughout the year moving to a new country. I hope you do more content, it is the show that brings everyone here but you are the person who keeps us coming back so anything you produce will definitely going to be something, at least i am going to be interested in.

It's been a ride

Man, what a journey it's been.

love you

Are u gonna do legend of Korra

Fantastic episode. Long time coming. Also, my take on Ty Lee joining the Kyoshi Warriors is just that. She JOINED them. By choice. She wasn’t born into them like she was her family; now she’s part of a group of similar looking women by choice, instead of by circumstance.
