Drawing backgrounds is hard.

Okay so. My original plan for otter tale is to draw all the backgrounds myself. This would be good practice in doing them and what not.

But It's also getting in the way of actually writing the novel now.

I want to add more CGs, more sprites and animations. But it starts to feel like the backgrounds aren't as important compared to these things.

I can get this done. But time is precious. To me I feel like doing stock images would be distracting after I drew every background before. But it would save a lot of time to do more important stuff.

I feel that the backgrounds in CGs would be enough to get an idea for locations. I actually drew the CG first and used the background from them.

I would still draw backgrounds for significant locations, but otherwise I would use stock images.

I could get someone else to draw them for me. But that costs money to make a free vn. I already am commissioning artists for the music.

One solution is to have stock images now. and add the backgrounds later.

Just get the game out and fix stuff later.

I want to get the first day of the vn done at the very least for july.

So what do you think? You guys are supporting this story. I will use stock images after this point. Unless I'm convinced otterwise. I want to work on the stuff that matters.

The thing that dualseeker brought up honestly works the best. You can just temporary use stock/temp backgrounds now, and always come back later to replace them. I see many go this route so they can focus on their story and writing beats, and then come polish up the backgrounds. So yeah, I'd recommend on focusing on what is more fun and better for your mindset now, since while backgrounds are good to have, they don't have to be perfect the first time around either. We know that what we get isn't the final project and it is still being worked on. So we can look past stock backgrounds or what have you in order to enjoy a lovely story you've made for us! ^.=.^ I hope this feedback helps as I really like what you're doing. : 3

Honestly it's one of the things I loved the most of your VNs, it has such a concise art style throughout it all. It doesn't feel mashed together like most VNs. Now obviously I understand why they do that. Like you said, it saves time and money. So personally I think it would be great if you could continue to draw all the backgrounds yourself. But at the least I hope you can find the right balance to make it work all together with your art style
