This is the song Gimme A Reason.
It all started with a concept I had, while sitting on a plane. A stewardess was giving the little safety lesson, and at the same time I was watching this horrid mom across the isle yelling at her kid. She looked beaten by life, poor, angry, disappointed, sad, and she was taking it out on her kid.
She said something like, "all the things I give up for you, you think you'd show some gratitude!"
At the same time, the stewardess said, "Make sure you put the oxygen mask on your self, before you help others with their mask. You can't help them if you pass out first.
That is when it hit me: that mom was unhappy. So unhappy she couldn't be a good mother to her child. She should have put the mask on herself, first.
To be good people, we have to put our happiness first. Not to the point where we don't regard anyone else's happiness, but to the point where we can at least be capable of being nice. Otherwise, you spread your depression to your loved ones. Your friends and family. You'll just spread your misery to all those around you.
Your happiness is as much your responsibility as anything else. Nobody else can give it to you, if you don't learn how to be happy yourself. And loosing it will cost you everything.
So live your live to the fullest, and make yourself happy. You owe it to yourself, but also, you owe it to the world around you.
