A prosecutor is like a detective and lawyer put into one. And in most shows Iโve seen it looks like lawyers and prosecutors donโt get along because theyโre sometimes on opposite sides and for cops since the prosecutor is higher than them they donโt get along either. I'm gonna quote something I read: "The functions of the public prosecutor are to investigate crimes and initiate and maintain prosecution; direct and supervise the police and other investigative agencies in crime investigations; submit requests to the court for appropriate application of laws and regulations; direct and supervise the execution of criminal judgement; and institute, pursue, and supervise civil suits and administrative litigations in which the government is a party or participant." Don't know if that is all or if it's 100% accurate but in Korea prosecutors have the legal authority to perform investigations by themselves or direct investigative agencies (because of The Criminal Procedure Act, article 195 and 196). So in short, they are involved more than in just the court. I'm not from Korea or have lived in Korea so this is just what I have picked up from reading about it, dramas and the internet in general. But if anyone feels like they have any more insight into this feel free to add anything๐
