2025-06-27 06:15:43 +0000 UTCPeople have the right to not like things, and they also don't need to sit down and give an in-depth analysis to why they don't like things. Creators need to realize that and develop thick skin if they want to succeed in the arts. Not everybody's going to like everything you do, and not everybody cares enough to give an in-depth analysis as to why they don't like your stuff.

2025-04-07 16:12:16 +0000 UTCYeah unfortunately some people are just gonna latch onto something to get mad at, you could agree with everything and someone will get mad, do the opposite and someone else will. The important thing imo is to just be you and the people that actually want to watch will enjoy it.

2025-04-01 22:07:28 +0000 UTCi love how invested you are in these episodes!!!! you do a fantastic job picking up on so many of the small subtle details! it’s such a fun and exciting series, i’m SO glad you like them as much as we all do :)

2025-03-30 21:54:34 +0000 UTCSafe way to determine if a character was a guest on the show is if they are actively part of the action. Garmili was just Matt, but people like Kash and Zara were guests at the table.

2025-03-28 00:57:22 +0000 UTCNgl I didn’t really get into SfS because the style of the music wasn’t for me from what little ive heard, however from those same snippets I could tell you’ve put a lot of good effort and work into it. You shouldn’t listen to those hating on it for no reason. Honestly wish people would just take a leaf out of my book and if it’s not for them just don’t engage in it. There are plenty of other musicals and songs out there that they’d probs enjoy more. Disliking something is ok, but making the artist/composer/writer feel bad about their work is absolutely not ok.

2025-03-27 19:26:09 +0000 UTCI heard (this may be wrong) that they made this song to include the phrase in the cartoon without having to deal with legal bullshit. No complaints, love hearing all these awesome folks sing! (Stray Gods is on my wishlist, hoping for the Steam Summer Sale)

2025-03-26 23:17:45 +0000 UTCCasper, in case no-one's told you, the ship name for Percival and Vex'alia is Perc'alia (and Travis is the BIGGEST shipper of the pair in the actual play ❤️). The ship name for Vax'ildan and Keyleth is Vax'leth (they were the first in the D&D group to try actual romance between characters), and the ship name for Pike and Scanlan is Pikelan. I already can't wait for you to watch the Table to Screen clips for the Syngorn scenes... Honestly Vex's "if I could pull the blood ... from my veins and give it back, I would" had me CRYING in the actual play, and it was so understated here.

2025-03-26 23:15:45 +0000 UTCYes, you've heard Vax call Vex "Stubby" before. He has nicknames for all of Vox Machina. I know he's used "Pickle" for Pike and "Kiki" for Keyleth in the animated show. I can't remember if he uses the rest of these in the animated show, but in the original campaign he also had "Freddie" for Percy (after one of Percy's middle names, Fredrickstein), "Big Guy" for Grog, and "Shorty" for Scanlan, but I'd say that was the least frequently used.

2025-03-26 21:20:10 +0000 UTCOk! Now that I'm done watching; I'm really glad you're enjoying this show. Even if this was an analysis-lite video, as someone who was around for the first CR campaign (and then got busy, and then finally got back into CR for the end of C3), these specific characters mean a lot to me, especially Vex, Vax, & their relationship with the Matron/death. It makes me really happy to just see someone else coming to love these characters and their story too. To answer your question: the ship name for Percy/Vex'ahlia is "Perc'ahlia" most of the time. Also, since you're reaching the back half of s2, I want to reiterate what I've seen a few people mention under previous videos-- you'll want to watch through the EXU: Calamity 4-part miniseries before you watch s3 of TLOVM. They made a pretty big change to the storyline of s3 compared to how it went down at-the-table in C1 (in order to better adapt the Chroma Conclave arc to a 12-ep-per-season animated show) and they bridged that adaption gap by bringing in lore from that miniseries. Even though it is not TECHNICALLY necessary to understand the plot of s3 (as they do an abridged exposition drop), I do think without having watched that miniseries, s3ep4 and the arc it sets up for Pike will not have the same EMOTIONAL oomph or the same understanding of character parallels/foils without viewing Calamity first. Also, EXU Calamity is just. One of the best examples of how short-form actual-play D&D campaigns can be high-art storytelling. Everybody at that table brought their acting & storytelling A-games. Including Sam Riegel and his bard-iest PC since Scanlan! So I'm sure you'd enjoy it.

2025-03-26 21:05:35 +0000 UTCI think the character deaths might not hit as hard in the show as they do in the campaign because while there is a sense of urgency, there really isnt a sense of failure. In dnd there is a chance resurrection might not work. Theres a roll to succeed or the player wont live. And for each resurrection performed on the character the chance for failure goes up as well. So in a campaign dying is very scary.....in my opinion tho, i agree that if there wasnt knowledge of what happened in the campaign then it feels pretty meh when thinking of dying.

2025-03-26 20:59:38 +0000 UTCCommenting before we get into the meat of the video just to reply to the SfS stuff you mention at the beginning. You seem to at least already realize that the people who didn't like SfS so far tend to not like it for "it's different from what I had in my mind, and I would have personally preferred a different direction" reasons (aka "I am uncomfortable when things are not about me/I am not the target audience" internet disease). So that's a good place to be starting from. Not every piece of art is for everybody, and that doesn't mean the art is bad because the people who it wasn't for wish it was more for them. BUT: even if your art was, in a hypothetical world, OBJECTIVELY bad (which it's not) instead of SUBJECTIVELY bad (which in my subjective opinion it is not), you MADE ART. You had an idea, and you put the time & effort into wrestling the idealized, perfect version that lived in your head down into an actual, real-world, completed project. Maybe it didn't turn out 100% like you imagined it would. Maybe there were awkward or unpolished parts that you aren't fully satisfied with, or maybe there are parts of it you had to compromise on because you didn't have the tools or resources to get it to come out the way you dreamed it. But you FINISHED. And people, especially people who don't themselves make art, don't realize how much effort, practice, time, & resources it actually takes to Make Art. And when you actually go through the hard work of taking an idea & trying to turn that into a reality, you not only have accomplished something many people give up on during the process, but you also LEARN NEW TRICKS and GET BETTER at the techniques you use to make your art. Even if it was objectively bad art (and yours is not), bad art is still valuable. Bad art is fun. Bad art is low-stakes. Bad art is brave. Bad art lets you experiment. Bad art is proof that you're growing as a creator. Bad art means pushing outside of your comfort zone, either in technique or in audience, and those are all valuable learning experiences. Bad art has a right to exist in the world, and has a very important role in the creative process. Never, ever apologize or beat yourself up for a project not turning out the way you want it to, or not receiving the praise you want it to. All "bad" art is progress. Give props to yourself for putting in the work, and embrace the cringe.

2025-03-26 16:45:06 +0000 UTCVex failed her dex save from the trap Percy accidentally activated and took necrotic damage that took her to 0 - which is an insta death. But you're right, the other "death" instances in this show (up to this point) were people making death saves or REALLY badly injured. Or completey changed from the stream, which as a die hard critter I love! It makes the show surprising for us as well 😉

2025-03-26 16:32:17 +0000 UTCAlso, calling Percy "Freddie" because the second name in his long-ass nobility name is "Fredrickstein."

2025-03-26 16:18:37 +0000 UTCYeah as a lot of people have said , dying and dead in D&D are different, so if my character has 120 hit points and gets taken to 0 then I need to start making death saving rolls. You need 2 out 3 rolls to be over 10 to succeed or a nat 20 to be stabilised. So while characters may be critically injured it doesn't mean they are dead. I've not watched the campaign as my attention span wint let me focus on it long enough, but I think when vex died she rolled a nat 1 on her death saves so insta death whereas other instances where it looks like they may die their hp is really low or they are rolling their saves . It's very common in d&d for their to be death reversals especially if you have a cleric or paladin in your party or the right scrolls, diamonds etc to make a spell work . Both me (halfling monk) and my partners character (dwarven cleric) were taken to 0 in put last session but luckily our friend (elven rogue/druid) stabilised us in time so we didn't have to roll death saves. We managed to take on a beholder ... just. Funnily enough our friends character had to be revived the session before that after he was swallowed by a giant acidic worm 😆

2025-03-26 09:36:35 +0000 UTCWith any thing that gets popular there'll always be people that hate on it(genuinely or just to follow the crowd), doesn't reflect on the creator only those hating without actually giving any creative criticism(too many seem to have forgotten the difference between hating on something and giving creative criticism)

2025-03-26 09:02:50 +0000 UTCIdk if anyone said it but the Makin My Way song(s) are a cute reference to a reference they make in game often. You know that Vanessa Carlton song A Thousand Miles, starts “makin my way downtown, walking fast, faces past and I’m homebound” it’s a catchy ear worm. They all will yell “MAKIN MY WAY” in this funny way whenever someone says the phrase on accident in game. Like a group tic haha. There’s compilation videos I’m sure. It was verrrryyy funny to me hearing Laura sing the phrase so seriously and so beautifully.

2025-03-26 05:05:38 +0000 UTCThe internet is full of assholes Casper. Try not to read too many comments. SfS was really good but folks never miss an opportunity to tear others down online. Folks win Grammys and then have thousands of people go online and whine about how overrated they are.

2025-03-25 22:56:32 +0000 UTCThree things VM related, and one that's not: First, Cheech Marin who voices Trinket during the drug trip is known in my dad's generation as a comedian whose humor is steeped in weed use. That they brought him in for the fey realm drug trip scene is a fitting nod to that. Second, the fey realm attacking Vax is less an active test from the Matron and more a passive consequence of the dissonance between the two realms. The fey are all about chaos and nature and growth, and the Matron being a harbinger of death and the grave is antithetical to that. And Vax's sour mood in those episodes wasn't helping things either, lol Third, and I think this was mentioned in another video's comment, but in game terms there's a distinction between "dead" and just "dying" where the latter is much more common than the former. Dying just means you're making death saves to stabilize, which is what a lot of these moments in LoVM can be chalked up to. Actual death is a bigger deal and, in their campaign, involves powerful magic and rituals to come back from. And finally, there's always going to be people online who hate just to hate and offer nothing of value. I, for one, love SfS and it's now in my playlist rotation. Keep up the excellent work, and I look forward to SfS part two!

2025-03-25 22:16:38 +0000 UTCSame! And yeah, it's scary and vulnerable to put anything creative out for the internet (Lord knows I am often too scared to with the things I write), so its a case of doing two thins so many of the negative commentors never will: pouring that much craft and care into something you create, and having the courage to post it publicly. And, for what it's worth, I've been enjoying it since it's release, but today for SfS and this video are helping calm down from a massive anxiety spike after some scary things happened not far from me today. So, thank you!

2025-03-25 21:35:19 +0000 UTCYou already met guest player characters: Zahra and Kash! But Garmelie was Matts brain child (and I guess voice child?) And yeah, Vax called Vex Stubby from the beginning. He has nicknames for all the girls that he uses quite frequently - Vex is Stubby (canonically Vex is like 2 inches shorter than him, hence the name), Pike is Pickle, Keyleth is Kiki. With the boys he tends to call Scanlan by his last name (Shorthalt) and Grog big guy. But I can't remember if he had proper nicknames for them as well. If he does he barely uses them, or I would probably be able to think on them.........

2025-03-25 21:19:09 +0000 UTCSaying your voice isn't right for Hades is such a weird and bad criticism. It's an adaptation. Hades has have a million voices. Remember Disney Hercules!?!?!? James Wood is a completely different kind of voice from HadesTown. Ignore the idiots.

2025-03-25 21:08:47 +0000 UTCFun little BTS on the bird in the beginning of episode 7: Matt and Marisha had a pet bird, Dagon, and based the design of the Fey bird off of their little girl's coloration, etc. They had approved the design and the gag with it getting eaten, then forgotten about it in the chaos of a lot of big projects. Sadly, before season 2 dropped, Dagon passed away. Then, they got this little surprise reminder of her when re-watching this episode...only for the bit to end on the Fey bird's demise... according to Matt when he told the story on CR's own reaction/BTS/watch-along stream, they choose to see the humor in the whole situation.
