Hey guys!
For the past few weeks I've been tinkering with this crab robot character, and it's been a lot of fun! It uses many of the same techniques as my mechanical walking creature tutorial, where I try to emulate a string mechanism to control the legs. The legs are controlled with armature, and the strings are curves attached with hooks, and I really enjoy how the result ended up as!

I spent a long time tweaking this animated texture, which is fully procedural. I wanted to make the motion resemble ocean waves going back and forth.

The rig uses an IK setup which should be very similar to my tutorial about my updated rigging workflow. It's super fun to use. Also for animating the legs, I recommend playing around with the 3D viewport snapping set to Face! That way the bones will snap to the ground, which is a great alternative to pressing shift + shift Z all the time.

The scene is fully animated with some camera movement that responds to the motion of the character. I had so much fun animating this, so I might be posting some stuff on my instagram in the next days.
Just wanted to share this now, because I think I've finished with the design and render setup. So I might have some fun with this character going forward? I don't know. Nevertheless, I hope it's a valuable project file for you to have fun with while I figure out how to have some fun with it :D
Thanks for the support!
