It definitely wasn't bait. He wanted to betray them, Cassian can size people up, he's done it since episode 1, so he put a stop to it.

2024-05-16 18:25:11 +0000 UTCI think it was bait by Ritchie/Skeen, he hates that he's thinking that is something he can do in that moment and is wondering if Cassian would do the same knowing their similar backgrounds. Then knowing he would, would give him a good excuse to kill that part of himself. Also probably upset the kid was dying. Problem is, he didn't realize Cassian is one to make quite decisive actions.

2024-05-13 20:29:25 +0000 UTCAndor is so insanely good. I don’t even like Star Wars all that much but Andor blew me away. The quality of the writing is so above and beyond anything else in the Star Wars IP. It’s almost a shame, I feel like the show would get more praise if it was its own original thing. Sadly I think it didn’t get as much attention because it got lost in the endless line of thrown together Star Wars shows.

2024-05-13 20:05:39 +0000 UTC-I love how cold blooded and without hesitation Cassian is when he realizes he has to kill someone. He doesnt like killing, but he won't flinch if he feels he needs to. -The view inside the ISB is quite great. I hate the character of Dedra, but goddamn does the actress kills the part. -With every rewatch i start to think that maybe the theory of Luthen's assistant being a Handmaiden/Double of Padme from the prequel days, could be the real thing.

2024-05-13 18:10:59 +0000 UTCi think it was at this point of the series for me where even if there were "build-up" episodes following this one, even those became just as satisfying as the "climax" episodes, which makes the actual climaxes all the more satisfying (thats what she said).

2024-05-13 13:41:25 +0000 UTCI think the reason Andor killed Richie (Skeen lol) so abruptly was that it clicked for him that as soon as Skeen realised he wasn’t down with the plan, he would have killed him outright. It’s the same choice he made in episode 1 with the security guard he shot. I think Skeen is an opportunist, they’re still probably getting a decent cut from this, and in the scenario where he makes it to the end of the heist with only a couple of others, why not try and take the lot? Anyway, great episode, and I don’t think it’s even this shows peak.

It was as you said a fantastic episode of tv in general and for me one of the best pieces of Star wars content i have ever seen (if not probably the best up to that moment, with only Empire strikes back and Rogue one, being on the same level). Skeen turning on them, i believe was done to show the many faces of a rebellion. Not everyone is in it for the same reasons. Rebellions as they are violent and chaotic affairs, very often attract unsavory characters in it to take advantage of every opportunity. Now granted that a mission as difficult as that would have required conviction from everyone, the promise of a possible score could be enough for some people to enlist (as we also saw from Cassian, albeit with his special circumstances). Luthen's laugh at the end was a relief. That's why they included that last scene in the previous episode where we see the often in control Luthen, seeming very anxious and nervous. Now that he learns that there was a rebel attack that is being presented, is enough for him to feel happy and relieved, even without knowing, whether this attack was successful or who made it out alive. Those are secondary matters for Luthen's big picture. Vel accepted what Andor told her, because he only got his cut, and left her the rest of the credits. So i imagine that's a very powerful argument that he was telling the truth. And yes, killing Skeen was the only viable option that Andor had at that moment. The impressive thing about him, is that he made that calculation in his head very quickly and acted on it, seemingly without a second thought. 7 is a stand a lone episode bridging the two arcs (of 4,5,6 and 8,9,10) together. Just as an FYI.
