I find Mark's philosophy so interesting. He doesn't feel powerless because he can't punch as hard as Nolan but because he was too weak to resist the violence that consumed his father and the Viltrumites. Very much like Luke throwing the lightsaber down thus refusing to give into the darkness his father got caught up in.
