Color Theory - Light Skin Tones

There is a standard sort of skin tone that is sometimes referred to as "flesh color" even though there is quite a range of different flesh colors in real life.

I like to use different flesh tones than the standard one to give variety and richness to my characters. Here's a sample of the general range of 'natural' skin tones (for white people at least).

Flintstone Style People

I drew a lot of (early) Hanna Barbera characters when I was a kid and it has certainly influenced my style. I drew many Flintstone comics and flip books and did dirty ones when I was a teenager. I called them 'Cave Nudes' and the football players loved them.
