After months of CUBA being up in the air and under repair - I simply cannot wait to find new horizons.
It hasn't been easy to escape all those boat projects recently to find a scenic spot. So, this shot has been in my collection for some time.
But now CUBA is repaired and back in her element, and with the next weather window, she will be taking me to many new canvasses to share ...

It's been 120 days since our accident and our already slightly chaotic lives have been flipped upside down. π«
Attempting a repair, like we faced, turned out to be more challenging than we'd expected.
Therefore we want to thank each one of you for continuously supporting our journey!
Without you, we could have not succeeded in repairing our dream. π₯°

You would probably think that sailing is the hardest part of this lifestyle, but in 3 years of sailing around the world we can tell you for sure that the SHIP YARD is the Winner.

After 3 years of sailing around the world fully off grid, we find ourselves with a very dirty girl. She is in desperate need of a full bottom job. This means we have to clean the hull first, then strip her down to the GELCOAT!
But this is easier said than done. Buckle up because this is only the beginning of our BOAT YARD LIFE.

There is nothing that beats a surprise find.
This one may not be so obvious at first. But if you look more closely, you will see the fossilised remains of a huge brain coral that may have well been even bigger than me.
When alive, these corals can consist of millions of tiny polyps that build these massive calcium structures. And to reach this size, it can take up to 900 years!

Happy New Year, guys!
It's been a busy few weeks on CUBA. We managed to finally haul her out and shwooop all of a sudden 2024 is here! π±
Where did the time go?
It actually feels a little surreal now that we look at the pictures above. After leaving CUBA in the warm Carribean waters with the wrong coating for too long, her hull had become a mess. Even though we cleaned her be...

Although our little home has turned into a construction site at the moment, I could have not asked for a more beautiful spot to get stuck in for a while.
Aruba the "One Happy Island" really stands true to its name and hardly a day goes by when we are not met by beautiful people and smiles everywhere.
Yet there is something that keeps taunting us, here on this tiny speck ...

We came back to my favourite spot in Aruba to let our hair down for a couple of hours.
While some of the work on CUBA had to set we took a short dinghy ride to this small stretch of land. The few abandoned houses have big verandas, open to the sea and there is a constant breeze going through.
It's like time has stopped in this place ...

Lately it's been a bit more tumultuous than usual on SV CUBA.
The galley and two of the cabins have been turned into work stations and the salon is used for storage.
Everything is a little out of place to say the least.
Yet slowly but surely we are working to turn CUBA from a construction site back into our home.
And in the meantime, we just have to keep a cool head....

Live off grid & sail the world they say! In this episode we show you how it is to sail into a new country. The sailing itself is easy, the mooring or anchoring your sailboat in a place you never saw before, now that's terrifying! let alone the formalities... oh boy.

Hey lovely Peeps!
We've been busy bees and managed to sand down the larger of the 2 impacts (aft impact) and laid the first 5 sheets of fiberglass on the outside. Wohoo! π₯³π₯³
So at least this one is sealed now since we had a few heavy rain showers in the meantime. π±

Hey lovely peeps,
It's been so much these past few days.
We wanted to share it all with you. But we did not leave you an update with more uncertainty.
It's been 2 weeks of talking to our insurance. It's difficult to solve a situation like we are in, on such a remote island in regard to resources to repair the damages to CUBA.
There is only one yard available and it...

We are sailing through the most dangerous waters for piracy in the Caribbean, the coast of Venezuela. Every year there are reports of yachts being attacked and boarded by pirates in this area. We know that piracy is a real threat in this coast but we most sail through these dangerous waters as we need to move on to reach the Dutch Islands, just to realise itβs Terrifying!

Someone left a beautifully carved rocking chair made of heavy, solid wood just right by the edge of a natural pool. A piece that perfectly fits into these surroundings.
The water is crystal clear. It's breezy here and there is plenty of shade to escape the burning sun.
Even though the scenery couldn't be more inviting, it doesn't look like anyone has visited this spot in some time. ...
