2020: One Show For Every Kind of TV Viewer

2020: One Show For Every Kind of TV Viewer

Every year we see pretty similar lists pop up around the internet claiming the “Top 10 Best Great Shows Of All Time This Year.” But there’s a fundamental problem with that task: not everybody watches TV for the same reasons.

Did that stop me from ranking every single show I watched this year? View Post

Ranking All of the 2020 Shows I Watched

Ranking All of the 2020 Shows I Watched

Even though all of TV production was thrown for a total loop this year, I still found the time to watch some 48 shows that aired in 2020. I ranked all of them in a semi-live setting in this video, definitely not as in-depth as you might be used to, but if I went in depth on 46 shows we might be here until 2021!

I've attached a written list if you prefer to just get the numbers!...

The Bizarro World of Network TV in 2020

The Bizarro World of Network TV in 2020

If you’ve been following my blog or listened to my old podcast Couch Taters, you might know that I have a penchant for what I’m calling Domino’s Pizza TV—it’s cheesy, it’s definitely not good, and I always wish I had spent my time doing something else. But I’ll be damned if I’m not skipping the plate and shoving that cardboard bread directly into my mouth.

Bad TV™ is som...

Things I would have loved to cover in my video about The Wire

  • The Stringer of it all
  • Status quo politics (2 party system, there are no alternatives)
  • Is this a commentary on the police?

It may have taken me two months to make Episode 4 of Copaganda and it may have been the longest piece I’ve ever written or made into a video, but believe it or not, the...

The Wire, Police Reform, and Capitalism | Copaganda Episode 4

The Wire has long been heralded as a smarter cop show, but is it even  really about the police or is it about systems, power, and money?

This video is the longest thing I've ever made and I really, really hope you like it. It was a long journey to get to a place where I felt like I could publish it (and to be honest, I still feel like it could use some polish since that's just the ed...

Blog Post: The Weird Way The Boys Pretends to Be Rebellious

The show is happy to attack the reputation of big business, just so long as it protects that business’s bottom line.

For those of you who don’t watch The Boys or care about superhero stories, I’m sorry you live in an era where they are the most lucrative—and thus most important—genre of pop culture. Oh, also spoilers for season 2 of The Boys.

Alternative to Live Q&As

Since I started the Live Q&As, attendance has dwindled every month. Which is okay!

All that means is that it's not a method of engagement that is working for people. I've posted two options I've seen work for creators in other spaces, let me know if you like either one or have a different suggestion!

Is The Boys Season 2 about...The Police?

Maybe it's the lack of returning TV or my obsession with Aya Cash or the Copaganda series, but The Boys’ second season is, so far, way more interesting.

Next Video Topic

Hey patrons! Thanks for always being there. I'm trying to decide on a topic for my next video and I'm stuck between two ideas.

- One is a smaller, more focused video on The Wire's 4th season. For those who haven't seen it, The Wire's 4th season is hailed as one of the greatest ever (I agree) and it stands apart in its ability to paint a complex and nuanced story about systemic injustice....
