A return to the past

Well, as you may have noticed, things have changed a little bit. Think of our next move as a return to our roots, MSN and WLM, and also Live Spaces. Everything else, unfortunately, has to be removed.

Overall, it's fine, I guess, more people used MSN anyway.

You'll be able to keep up with us on escargot.chat where soon the...

ICQ now in open alpha, Skype news, and other stuff

Hey buddies!

It's been a little while since our last major update, but it's because we're working on big things. In this announcement we're going to cover ICQ, Skype, AIM, and some other things.

We've been growing, a lot, we've added some more servers, and we're now testing our new multi-server protocol that will allow us to expand more easily going forward. We're in the first stage...

Updates for AIM, ICQ, AOL, and getting close to Escargot 2.0

Hey buddies!

This is the first in a series of major updates which are a part of our finally drive toward the launch of Escargot 2.0 very darn soon, and additional version support for AOL, among many other things we've got coming up (see the list below for details).

We're getting more and more popular, but less and less donations. We know people hate that we ask, but running this isn...

Here is a sneak peek at what we are working on:

AOL 6.0! One more version to our roster! Buddy lists and IM were totally revamped - it's real cool.

Internet! You can now browse the internet... keep in mind it's IE, so websites won't render that well.

Proxies! We have two options for ...

AIM access now free and publicly available

Hello buddies, we've got big news!

It's chilly and cloudy here at the NINA & Escargot HQ in Kansas, which is a great day to stay in and bask in the wonders of AIM, now free and publicly available.

We support all versions of AIM, and all features are functional, however client-to-client features such as talk (voice chat), video, file tran...

Rewritten from the ground up (again, really AOL?), and we have the foundation of it working and ready for you guys to help us test it. It works very differently from other versions of AIM and we need to catch bugs first before adding all the features (like message history, attachments, etc!)

AIM 6.0-7.5 now available and other updates

Hello buddies,

Well it's an unusually hot day here in Kansas -- a perfect day for updates. The gap between the last update and now is primarily because of our focus on finalizing AIM/ICQ and preparing for Escargot 2.0. There will also be an update next week for things which didn't make it into this release.

AIM and ICQ early access is now $2, however that does not come with any spec...

This week in updates: 6 Sept 2024

Hello buddies,

A few more AOL/AIM/ICQ service updates and fixes for you!

Not as many updates this time, that's because we're focusing on a few things:

  • Getting out Escargot 2.0 soon with full inter-op with AIM/ICQ/AOL users and WLM 2011/2012

  • Making the services more fault-tolerant so they don't go down, even for updates

  • Reworking our ICQ im...

Hello buddies,

Yet more AIM/ICQ service updates and fixes for you!

This update ran a little later than we wanted it to, primarily because of a lot of additional backend changes and fixes we were working on in order to help extend things for the coming Escargot 2.0 (see previous post for preview).

Additionally, our updates will likely be every other week rather than trying to ...

Little preview at one of the challenges that MSN <-> AIM interop bring... conversations.

These two services handle chatting in totally different ways. But hey, is it really a challenge if we get it working? ;)

More info coming soon, we're working hard, we showed early versions of MSN (because they're faster to relogin, much faster, much lighter, easier for testing), but keep y...

ICQ and TOC fixes, and other updates for AIM

Hello buddies,

This update ran a little later than expected because my (Tony) day job has been very hectic lately, however despite that we've had a lot of help and input from users who have spent a lot of their free time helping us iron out the kinks.

So in general I apologize for holding up the release, but I want to thank you Patrons for your continued support, it's helped more t...

Hello buddies,

First and importantly: If you like this project and want it to keep going, we absolutely need your help. In the last month we've had almost no donations aside from Patreon/Boosty and unfortunately we've had quite a few patrons unsubscribe. We need to raise $753 ASAP, and even a dollar helps (not just due to hosting, but also compa...

Weekly update, a few days late but still great

Firstly dear patrons, I want to apologize that we are a few days late on the weekly update, but there are some things we wanted to test and make sure were working before we updated. The next weekly update should be on time and, baby, it's going to be a good one.

By the way if you aren't a patron and/or want to help support us further, please consider donating, it will keep the service al...

This.. last two weeks in updates

Hello buddies,

Some new AOL/AIM/ICQ service updates and fixes!

As you may have noticed we didn't have a weekly update last week, that's because we're working on a lot and have a fair amount to show today. We're also going to have a minor update mid-week as well since we have a lot of things nearly-complete. If you're seeing this post and haven't subscribed or donated, we need your h...

This week in updates: chat updates, keywords, and other fixes!

Hello buddies,

We meant it when we said there'd be at least weekly updates. This last week was a lot of building out backend features to improve stability and make it easier to build other client features, so not a lot to show off this week, but still worth talking about.

Lots of updates and more to come!

It's been a while since our last regular update, and we assure you that we will be returning to a more consistent post schedule to let you know what's going on. We've been stretched very thin with updates for AIM/ICQ, AOL, and Escargot 2.0, but some big changes have happened and have laid the groundwork for even more updates, much more consistently.

What is TOC, you may be wondering? TOC (Talk to OsCar) is a protocol, and a server which connects to the AIM service.

Compared to OSCAR, TOC is more simple, however it is not as flexible and doesn't contain all the features of OSCAR. It does, however, contain the essential features to communicate with the AI...
