My name is Brycena Olacooper, I’m a nineteen-year-old knight in the Crystaltide army, and I’m the personal knight and servant to Princess Cindyith Dobholland. Not long ago the princess had visions of a coming evil and sent me out to find and aid the hero of light.
I ended up finding them in an old ruin, where they were trying to get past a door but had no idea how to do it. It was fairly clear to me that they were a rookie when it came to solving puzzles in dungeons, but they were the heroes and it was my job to help them.
I told them about two lines of magic flowing from the side rooms and told him that it was likely powering the door and keeping it closed. He seemed to understand and suggested we split up, and then he winked and smiled at me.
I don’t know why but my heart started to race when he did, and it wasn’t the same type of racing that I get during fights, it was almost like a happy and excited version. I had no idea what was happening to me, but I had to push it down and focus on my mission.
I followed the lines of magic to a large room, which was very dark. So I pulled a torch off the wall and used my spark stones to light it. It didn’t light up a lot, but it was enough for me to be able to detract traps and enemies before they got too close.
I made it to the end of the room to find the door was locked and no button or switch next to it to unlock it. That likely meant there was a puzzle in the room that I needed to solve to proceed. As I looked around the room, the ruins started to shake.
I could hear loud crashes coming from the direction Leoslight went in. I thought about rushing to his aid, but if he was the hero, he needed to overcome his trial and stand on his own two feet. If I bail him out on the easy stuff, he’ll stand no chance against the great darkness.
I then walked around the room, trying to find some hint of what I needed to do. That’s when I stepped on a tile, causing it to light up with a symbol I’d never seen before. I looked towards the door to see if it was open, which it wasn’t.
However, the same symbol I see on the floor is lit up on the door. The symbol was the third on the door, so I likely had to find the rest of the symbols and press them in order. I got to work looking around for the rest of them.
One was under a pool of water, so I tossed some rocks at it to activate it. Another was on the wall hidden behind an old banner, and the final one was actually under a crate. I thought the crate would be heavy since it was big, so I tried to push it with all my strength and ended up sending it flying.
It hit a wall and shattered to pieces. I let out an awkward laugh. If I’d done that at the castle I would be in for a scolding from the princess or even my mentor. Luckily this was an old abandoned ruin, so no one would miss it.
Now that I had found all the tiles, I looked at the order and quickly went around pressing all of them. Lights all around the room suddenly lit up and the door started to open. I could tell the source of the magic keeping the main door closed was on the other side of the door.
It wasn’t alone though, I had no idea what, but something strong was on the other side of the door. I put out my torch and drew my sword. I slowly walk into the next room to find a small wyvern eating a cow it had caught.
In the ceiling above there was a hole leading to the outside. That had to be how it was getting in and out. I remained in the doorway trying not to be noticed. I don’t think I can sneak around it to turn off the mechanism, so I’ll have to fight it.
So I ran into the room and jumped onto its back, driving my sword into its back. It was caught off guard but quickly got onto the attack. It swung around and caused me to fly off of it. It was already charging at me by the time I landed.
So I did a quick roll, letting it smash its head into the wall. I then slashed the backs of its feet. It screamed out and pain and swung its wing at me, forcing me to jump back to avoid it. It then opened its mouth and started to breathe fire.
I ran around trying to avoid it, but the flames started to quickly fill the room, and I needed to do something to stop its fire. So while running around, I pulled out my bow and grabbed an arrow, I then pulled out one of my potions and jammed the arrowhead into the cork of the bottle.
Then I ran towards a wall, jumped off it, and shot the potion into the wyvern's mouth. The bottle shattered on one of its teeth and the liquid and glass went everywhere, but its inner flame was drenched causing it to go out.
The wyvern choked a bit, so I took advantage of that and ran at it again. I shoved my sword into its neck and pulled it down its body into its stomach. Blood started to pour out and it once again cried out in pain.
It flung its head at me and sent me flying into the ground. I quickly got up thinking it still had some fight in it and would have charged me again, but it had just fallen over. I let out a sigh of relief knowing I beat it.
If we hadn’t been in a small room, it wouldn't have been as easy. I picked myself up and held my side. That last hit really hurt, and I used my only potion to beat the wyvern, so looks like I was going to have to tough this one out.
I walked over to the machine and turned it off. I felt the magic flowing towards the main door cut off, followed by the ruins et again shaking. I made my way to the main door and noticed it was fully opened, and that someone was standing deep inside it.
I figured it was Leoslight, so I ran to meet up with him. When I called out to the person standing next to a pedestal, he turned around. I immediately drew my sword, because the person standing there wasn’t Leoslight, but instead some sort of demon.
He was also holding a relic, which seemed to be a piece of something larger. That had to be what Leoslight needed, which meant this guy was a member of the forces of evil we faced. I pointed my sword at him and demanded he release it.
He scoffed at me and pointed his hand at me, his hand started to glow, and in a split second, he shot out a beam that split the room in half as it moved. It was so fast that I couldn't possibly move out of the way in time.
I thought I was a goner, but when the light faded, there they were. Leoslight with their lance had split the blast in half and reflected it to the sides to avoid hitting me. I sat there frozen, my heart was once again fluttering and I was just so happy to them, never mind be saved by them.
Leoslight stared down the demon almost challenging him. Never said anything, and the demon scoffed and used magic to vanish. Once he was gone, Leoslight turned towards me and asked me if I was okay.
I nodded not even really thinking about it. I was just lost looking at their beautiful face. They snapped me out of my strange trace and told me the demon got the artifact, but that it was okay, it was only half of it, and Leoslight knew where the other was, but they had to leave now to get to it in time.
I nodded and told him I just needed a second, and I’d be out right after him. He left and I looked towards the pedestal. I don’t know why, but something didn’t feel right. I walked up to the pedestal and examined it.
On it, there was a carving of a hand. I don’t know why, but I placed my hand on it. Suddenly it started to glow. Then I went from standing in the ruins to standing in a field of flowers. I turned around a few times, and that’s when she appeared.
The Goddess Of Light herself was standing before me. She told me I had a tough fight ahead of me. Then she said I passed the first trial, and because of that, she would bestow her blessing upon me. She then placed her hand on my head.
I tried to tell her I wasn’t the hero, and that I could go get them, but I couldn't speak in his place. She was the goddess though, so perhaps the hero wasn't supposed to receive the blessing, but one of their companions.
Leoslight was pretty strong, so perhaps this was so I could stand with them and be just as strong in the final battle. The goddess removed her hand from my head and I could feel a surge of new power flowing from my body.
She wished me luck in saving the world. I smiled and bowed to her. Then I found myself back by the pedestal in the ruins. I looked at my hands, I could still feel my new power, and it was incredible, I never felt anything like it. The power of the goddess is impressive, which is good, we’ll need it to beat that demon and his master of darkness.
