Horsewomen Of The Failed Apocalypse (Com)

A commission for last_of_workers

The four horsemen of the apocalypse, sat upon their horses looking down on humanity preparing for their grand mission that would usher in a new era for the planet, humans, angels, and demons. They were ready to ride when the unexpected happened.

The gates to hell and the portal to heaven suddenly started closing. War grabbed the reins of his red horse and started to speed off towards the gate to hell, his sword drawn and ready for whatever battle may come.

Death looked up at the sky, the angels started to fall from the sky. He grabbed the reins of his pale horse and started to ride towards them. He was going to finish them off and reap their souls using his scythe.

Famine looked at Pestilence and asked what he was planning to do. Pestilence pulled out his bow. He looked towards the gate where war went off to, and then the area underneath heaven death had gone to.

He said that if they were taking care of them, he might as well go find some humans and spread his good vibes. Pestilence let out a laugh, grabbed the reins of his white horse, and rode off down to the nearest city.

Famine sat back, his scales swaying back and forth from the moment. He sighed and said he wasn’t in the mood to go on a killing rampage, instead, he was off to try some of the human delicacies they have here on earth.

He grabbed the reins of his black horse and slowly rode into town behind Pestilence. Each of them willingly or not had begun their work in what was supposed to be the start of the apocalypse, but it wasn’t fated to be.

Before War made it to the gate to see what was going on, it closed, and with it closing all the demons and their connection to hell was served suddenly. Most of the demons that were outside of hell fighting burned and turned to ash immediately.

Those more powerful like the four horsemen felt a majority of their power being drained and collapsed to the ground. Following the gate to hell closing and disappearing, the portal to heaven shortly followed, and thus the apocalypse was stopped.

The humans had somehow pushed back both armies and protected their world, which was good for them, but not for those like the horsemen who were now suffering the effects and strange consciences that came with being severed from hell.

One by one the horsemen woke up to discover they’d been severely weakened, and taken on a human-like body, female ones at that. They knew they were in a bad situation and needed to meet up to make a plan.

Luckily they had discussed a place to meet up beforehand, and because they were the only four on horses it was easy for them to identify the others even if each of them looked vastly different and no longer had their weapons.

None of them had any idea what happened to the gate, or their bodies, and so far no one from hell had sent any sort of message to them, so as far as they knew, they were the only ones outside the gate, which meant it was up to them to resummon it and open it.

Which would be hard in their current state. They needed to regain their power, which they usually did by killing and causing chaos in their unique way. Death decided to get right to work and grabbed a squirrel that was running by and killed it.

Normally even small animals gave her some power boost, but she got nothing from it. The group was shocked, Death killing something and not gaining power from it was crazy. Not only were they stuck in these bodies, they were powerless. They were basically humans now.

Famine didn’t really seem to care, which caused Pestilence to get pissed and start a fight with her. War was watching them, normally she’d love to see people fight, but their fighting made her feel bad, and for some reason, she stepped in between them and stopped the fight.

The shock of seeing war stop a fight was so shocking everyone stopped talking and watched her. War was looking at them as well, but then looked down at her hands and said she felt her power increasing.

War stopping a fight increased her power, was that the secret? Each of them had to do the opposite of what they normally did in order to regain power. The very thought made most of them want to throw up, but if it meant getting their power back and restarting the apocalypse.

They’ll do what they have to. So they split up agreeing to get their power back and meet up by where the gate was supposed to be once they did. It’s now been over three years since that day, and each of the horsewomen has settled into new lives in order to regain their power.

Pestilence now known as Dr. Presley has become a very successful and highly praised virologist. She spends her days researching different viruses and how they affect everything from humans to animals and even plants.

She then works to create vaccines to make people and animals immune. In the three years she's been here, she’d already managed to eliminate common viruses like the flu and chickenpox, and she is currently working on curing HIV and herpes.

War, now known as Warda, had gone to war-torn countries and instead of trying to make them last longer, she became a diplomat and was working on bringing peace. She had a way with words and was quite convinced now, so it wasn't that hard to get both sides to sit down and negotiate.

It only took her about a year to end the current wars between humans, and nowadays she just goes around attending meetings between feuding parties and settling the matter before another war could break out.

Famine now known as Faaria didn’t go on to do anything big like the previous two. Instead, she became a chef and worked her way up the ladder at a fancy restaurant until she was head chef, but that turned out to be too much work and pressure for her.

So after making quite a bit of money, she invested it into opening up a soup kitchen and feeding the homeless in the area, which turned out to restore her power even quicker. Now she goes from town to town, opening up new places to help feed the homeless.

Now finally Death, known now as Demi. She much like Pestilence had gone into the medical field, but instead of preventing diseases, she works as a nurse in a maternity ward. She spends her days helping bring life into the world.

She helps expecting mothers from the first day they know they’re pregnant, all the way up to them going into labor and pushing a baby out. So far in the years she’s been here, she’s delivered over seven thousand babies.

Each horsewoman goes about their days hoping one day soon their power will return and they could go back to normal, but little did they know that not only were they at full power already, but they were the reason the apocalypse couldn't restart.

See, the apocalypse could only restart once humanity was close to the brink of collapse, which was brought on by lesser demons sowing the seeds and leading humanity to that path, but now not a single one remains to be able to do that.

All the demons on Earth were destroyed, and the remainder were sealed within hell with no way to get out. The only ones who could try and bring humanity to the brink of collapse were the horsewomen, all of which were currency making the world a better place.

The four of them made the world a better place in a misguided attempt to get their powers back and destroy it. They’ll never know that, and they’ll continue to live their adopted lives, have families, and whatnot, all while they wait for a day that’ll never come.

I also adore them, and can agree they’re really done in a fun well fleshed out way. I do remember one game series where they’re the main characters and each game you play as one of them, darksiders, I haven’t played it but I’ve seen my dad play them and they look pretty good.

Here it is! Thank you so much for this story Riley! This is really exactly what I wanted to see... I don’t know why, but I just adore the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse!... Unfortunately, they are rarely used as full-fledged characters... I can only remember “Good Omens”, but even there they were shown... Not so much as full-fledged characters but as one of the threats... In general, I am incredibly glad that you still decided to bring this story to life despite its... Specificity... My deepest bow to you for this Riley
