The Walking Dead 4X9 RAW REACTION

Here is access to the Uncut Reaction: The Walking Dead Season 4, Episode 9.

Featuring:

🎬 Adison & Brandon

— Adison

Comments

* When Michonne returns to Hershel's head to put it down, it is facing to the left while looking down on it, while when the Governor completely decapitates Hershel, his head is facing to the right while looking down. However, it is possible it was kicked/tripped over by the Governor after shooting Meghan Chambler, by another human, or by a walker after the battle. * There are many shots throughout the episode containing lawns that have been recently mowed, most notably Carl's pudding scene on the roof. * In the previous episode, "Too Far Gone", Clara's reanimated body was already in the prison field, while it is near the broken gate in this episode. * When Michonne returns to Hershel's head, it can be heard producing walker moans, however without any larynx or lungs, his head would not be able to produce any noise except the sound of his mouth opening and snapping shut. * When Michonne is walking amongst the group of walkers and sees one that resembles her, the walker extra can be seen blinking. This is something that the walkers are unable to do.

Austin

* The title of the episode, "After", refers to the aftermath of the prison assault. * The episode's exact runtime is 00:48:07. * One of the walkers that Michonne uses as a deterrent to the other walkers is the reanimated corpse of the Governor's soldier that Lizzie killed in S4EP8 "Too Far Gone" * It is mentioned in that audio commentary of "After" that Michonne chose this man and the other to be her pet walkers, as they both fought for the Governor and deserved to be punished. * Michonne previously mentioned to Rick in S3EP12 "Clear" that she used to talk to her dead boyfriend, Mike. * The opening scene of the episode mirrors the ending scene of S1EP1 "Days Gone Bye" and also the opening of S1EP2 "Guts" * This is the last episode where Scott Wilson (Hershel) and David Morrissey (Philip/The Governor) * are shown in the opening credits (although Wilson's name is briefly re-inserted for the episode S4EP16 "A"). * This episode was leaked a day early on Xbox Video. * The scene with Carl under three walkers mirrors a similar scene in S2EP10 "18 Miles Out" where Rick is the victim * In the original script, when Carl is tying the door shut with the TV wire, he was supposed to say "Dale taught me". However it was later decided to have Carl say "Shane taught me" to create an even bigger tension between Rick and Carl. * One of the actors/zombies that piled on Carl was the same actor/zombie whose fingers were seen reaching for Rick through the "Don't Open, Dead Inside" door in S1EP1 "Days Gone Bye". Another actor/zombie that piled on Carl was the one that attacked Dale in S2EP11 "Judge, Jury, Executioner" This was mentioned by executive producer Greg Nicotero on Talking Dead * A reference to Jack Goodman, a character from American Wolf, was added in the episode. He was seen as one of the zombies following Michonne in the woods. * The name "Sam" was visible on one of the bedroom doors, suggesting the room belonged to a young boy named Sam. It is unknown what happened to Sam as no child zombies were seen in this episode.

And production waa being messy lol right after carl said all of that to his dad they put him in a scene by himself with 4 walkers and had him fall while trying to bust down the door lol they basically said no matter how angry you are? You still need your dad

Shemeka meemee Beamon

Im seeing a big difference in people in the comment section... the ones that are ok with how carl mourned are the ones that allow their kids to talk to them crazy and the ones that are like yall, the ones that thought what carl was saying was not ok are the parents that wish their kid would come at them sideways... go get a switch off the tree right mf now cause like who are you talking to

Shemeka meemee Beamon

i think they showed Herschel because it showed a character trait of Michonne. Instead of leaving she intentionally went looking for Herschel so he wasn't left as a zombie. Carl is not upset that they were attacked, he's upset because he was beginning to believe that they could have a life at the prison. He's mad at Rick for making him believe that was even possible in the world they are living in now. He lost (in his mind) his sister, everyone else and he's not really sure if Rick is going to make it.

Dolorous Jess

"You had your chocolate, i'm finna get mine" is legendary hahah

John Standen

carl is coping. when he says ‘i’d be fine if you died’, he doesn’t mean it literally. he’s trying to convince himself that he will be, because he thinks his father is about to die. rick is the last person carl has left, and if he died carl would have to be on his own. i think this episode is tying alot of parallels between michonne and carl too. michonne is what carl could turn into if he really were to end up alone. in the end they find eachother and ‘save’ eachother from losing themselves in isolation, like michonne did earlier in the series. such a good and complex episode!

BIG BUFFORD!!

Teal Summers

man idc what nobody says. carl was being hella disrespectful end of story. he crossed the line way too many times with some of the shit he was talking. i get he's going through it and grieving but that doesn't mean he gets to talk to his father like that. and ngl i was nervous about rick not waking up at first, but it makes sense. he needed to rest & heal so his body just shut down temporarily lol i didn't think he turned tho ik they wouldn't do my man rick like that. also loved getting more of michonnes back story. she hinted in the past that she had some dark times like rick. only difference is rick can't just leave and disappear, he has children. but michonne with no ties can start over anytime anywhere. and with the way she reacted to judith, you could tell she had a child.

courtney

Great choice although all cereal except the one that looks like rabbit food pellets are perfect

Constantdev

I F**king love y'all!! I'm cry laughing over here. "Maybe it got raided already. Maybe the seasoning was the 1st to go!@!@ :,-)

JennKin

Grief is a hard. You can’t blame anyone for the way they react to, or deal with grief .

Danielle Lee

I'm really glad that you two are clocking Carl's disrespect! All I'm seeing is people going through hoops and loops to defend him. Yes, he's going through a hard time, but that's not an excuse to be disrespectful. Talking about he can "take care of himself," when the only weapon he relies on is a gun. No skill, no experience, no versatility. There's a lot of growing up he needs to do.

gayjinchuriki

Recents a bit of a stretch. It's been 7 years

Mikel Swart

onto the next !

NorthhSZN

carl poppa

NorthhSZN

Hershel’s actor died recently too. RIP to a real one!

Lee Smith

Michonne had lost herself for a minute and almost reverted back to old behavior patterns. Seeing another zombie that resembled her woke her up and helped her to realize she had a family to fight for.

Camillionaire

My heart went out to Lil Carl in mourning his sister and the lose of his sense of security, comfort, community acquired at the jail. I think he blames Rick for letting down his guard of the farm and gun protection knowing that the Governor was still out there harboring vengeance. Rick should've kept more of a balance between the new perspective of the farming culture and keeping his vigilance ongoing. Rick was just tired and really needed the council to share his burden. Carl is in his feels and severely hurting right now. 💔😢😭

Camillionaire

He thinks his dad is dying yall, he couldn’t even wake him up. Yall take everything characters say too literally. He’s trying to convince himself he can survive without him because he probably has to. Right after watching all those people die, chased from his home, and saw his sister was gobbled up whole 😩 give this poor baby a day

Rynn

We loved the watching the Talking Dead episodes after the TWD episodes. I fondly remember Chandler Riggs saying he never wanted to eat pudding again too. ❤

Camillionaire

That’s my chocolate drop 😭😭❤️onggg lmfao aye we getting into the real crazy soon 🥺

Mosellaaa

“With or without the sword” is diabolical

Idiotology101

Carl is an early teen trying to be a man. They are all mourning what just happened. I remember Chandler Riggs interview on the Talking Dead episode after this TWD episode: he said with all the takes for that scene he never wants to eat chocolate pudding again. I always took what happened with Michonne is her man either killed their child to prevent their son from dealing with this world, or he was killed, turned into a walker & ate their son. Regardless, she worked through her trauma in this episode.

Rindamarie

Wow, the end of episode discussion was insightful about listening to your partner. It definitely is a gamble though, but discernment is a must. Also, Lori was 75% terrible, but she had her moments when she stood up for Rick as her husband, no matter what. You gotta give her that.

Tanayia R.

Bro yall gotta give him sum slack this boy had to grow up fast he had to kill his mom and right now he has that feeling to protect everyone but at the same time he didn’t really know the ways to go about situations like this

trexgod 25gaming

lol this yelp revoew for joe junior bbq shack sprinkled through the reaction!but in all seriousness-they probably had some type of corn beef hash i wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole and the energygo all wrong before you even get through the door

jasmin

yeah the way brandon said you couldn’t protect judith probably the root of the issue it’s grief for judith and mad at himself over her but taking it out on his father

jasmin

I need it atleast 4 more episodes 6 more episodes until we finish the season

Deolinda Da silva

Am wid you onnat can't wait for s5 and S6 they littt and crazy.

Deolinda Da silva

Exactly like it won't hurtt

Deolinda Da silva

“And I luh you lil Carl!” got me wheezing 😂 We all had the same sentiment about our little insubordinate nephew.

where_is_t

Gotta remember that Carl wanted to shoot the Governor but Daryl told him to trust his dad and Hershel will make it. He trusted him and it all went to shit. In his mind, he could have saved everyone by killing the Governor right there

Beast

2 today if yall feelin good ? 🙏🏽

Danielle Lee

I love this show so much!

IsisAtlantis

Yea imma need y’all to gon head and run me a couple more episodes 🫴

Z

Every last thing that Carl said to Rick as he was asleep playing was the pure truth

N7

Brandon I love when you said Carl had too much dip on his chips that was a good one I might have to use that one 😂 but I know Carl was mad and going through some things but the way he talked to his dad he needed an old fashioned granny butt whooping the level of disrespect and my Brandon's voice until next time ❤️

Queen S

When I first watched this episode, I didn't realize how big carl has grown physically! But now that I'm rewatching this series this is the episode where he knows he's a teen and wants to act like he doesn't need his dad but since he never finished growing up, he still is a kid at heart... Honestly, I can't wait to see your reactions to his mental mind grow and his strength!

Mikaevee

I thought y'all would take a week break after Big H death! Btw the 2 walkers Michonne cut up and used for walker pets was from The Governors group that just attacked

Fellerz

Hey Guys, my favorite cereal is Special K. Now for this episode I always to smack Carl for the way he talks to Rick, especially brining up Shane when he knows Shane tried to kill his Daddy so he can take over as Lori's husband and being his father. I'm glad he realized at the end he needs his Daddy because he's still a kid even he likes to think he's grown. Now for Michonne, you guys will find out about Michonne and her family. Also Michonne killed 24 walkers in that clearing by herself. I'm so glad she ditched the walkers and went and found her family because her boy needs her, well both Rick and Carl needs her and she needs them. Great episode and reaction you'll had me cracking up and agreeing with you about Carl. And like Brandon said we love you Carl but you still need to calm your butt down. Also the guy who plays Michonne's boyfriend Mike plays Alex Cross. Which I have never seen but I heard it's good.

Cleo Griffith

peanut butter cap'n crunch of course

Stephsmithanie

I don’t think kids are dumb, that’s a little harsh. They just lack life experience and maturity, but that doesn’t mean that their feelings are invalid. Carl has a right to be mad at Rick; just because you’re a parent doesn’t mean your child has to like, respect, or agree with every decision you make. Especially in a zombie apocalypse. We’re imperfect beings so Carl was just angry and Rick was the outlet for his anger.

Keke

Frosted Miniwheats...strawberry...

Marcos Jiron

Carl is just processing his losses. Kids don’t do rational things.

Erikka_reacts

Growing up my favorite cereal was Frosted Flakes and that’s yellow cereal POPs. IYKYK

ReelPiscesPlays

Michonne Needs Rick/Carl and the Both of them need her.

Tyrademi

Baby Carl is just going through a lot. He’s probably made that they didn’t go finish the governor off. Remember he was mad at Rick at that before. Then he has lost a lot. The part he started crying showed that at the end he’s just a kid. He put down Shawn, man he admired like a father figure, put down his mama, thinks his sister is dead, and then the moment he thought Rick turner was just the last straw for him

ReelPiscesPlays

lol same

ariel mermaid

Michonne's reaction to seeing Rick and Carl always make me emotional...she needed them fr! She cut herself off from feeling and attachments for so long I think she was feeling like one of the dead herself and seeing that walker that kinda looked like her was the wake up call that she didn't want to be that. Carl probably been needed a lil whooping, but he's 100% understandable to me. As a kid, he's been handling this world and everything that's happened to him since remarkably well honestly. I think he's allowed a little acting out lol and the important thing is by the end of the episode he apologized and got it together so I don't hold anything he said or did this episode against him. Rick IS trying his best and he shouldn't have to be the only one making decisions, but he's also the kind of guy who thinks that's just how it needs to be.

sierra's reaction corner

You know what's funny about yall getting on Carl like this (I agree he was doing too much though) I was getting on adison just like that last episode for how he was criticizing Rick for that convo with the governor lol

Saturn Metaku

"Lover" is an official term. for both unmarried and married people lol. I dont think its a um.... melanated term tho.

Saturn Metaku

"The dead are walking. And the NEGROES are talking." Needs to be a catchphrase and a shirt. Take that free game and sell that shirt my boi

Saturn Metaku

not too much on my boy carl😭he been through sooo much and is still technically a kid

vanessa

I think a big reason Carl is so aggressively angry at his father stems from that conversation they had ate the end of last season. Carl had that moment where he blantantly called out Rick about how leaving people alive keeps coming back to bite us. Sure enough, The Governor pulled up, murderered Hershel, and destroyed their home. I think Carl never truly agreed with Rick about taking both of them out of the game. He probably understood WHY Rick did it, but I'm sure he felt like Rick was trying to regress him back to being a child, when he knows that he'll never stop being a soldier. But he followed and went along with Rick's plans for them because he still trusted his father. I mean, Carl imitates Rick a lot, which is why Rick pulled them both back order to lead by example. Help them both find some sense of healing. After what just happened though, losing almost everything(his baby sister, his found family, his home, etc), Carl feels like everything Rick was trying to turn him into turned out to be a waste of time. That stepping back to be a farmer knowing that the threat of The Governor(and knows what else)was still out there was all for nothing. "He knew where we were and you didn't care!". Again, this still stems from the "I did what I had to" conversation between them last season. Another issue Carl was having was Rick trying to "little boy" him, which I do think was unfair to Carl who's shown time and time again that he can be very much reliable help. We know he can assist with clearing a house. Rick trying to not let Carl help or treat him like he didn't know what he was doing probably felt like a slap with what just happened. Like Rick believe that Carl somehow forgot how to survive the world they lived in because he was hoping that Carl had "forgotten", or at least mentally stepped away from in order to bring him back as a kid. Holding hin back from being a soldier may have been fine when they had the stability of their lives in the prison, especially to help steer his mentality from becoming dangerous, but out in the wild? Rick doesn't have that luxury to try and do everything himself. That's not including the injuries from the gunshot & beat down he'd gotten. Like Carl said, "You can't protect me" and he's right. Rick can't protect him from their reality. Carl's been through too much, seen too much(he literally just saw Hershel get decapitated and his baby sister's carrier with blood all in it), and done too much in his life and in this world. You can't expect him to just forget how things work. He may be a kid, but that kid is still a solider, and considering the circumstances that they were in, Rick needed to see & treat Carl as such...

Ash Lee Can

Excellent point of view💕

T’michelle

Finally we get our big 3 rick, carl, michonne

Deolinda Da silva

I totally get why some people see Carl as harsh in 4x9, but I think that whole episode is way deeper emotionally than just him lashing out. Carl wasn’t just mad—he was disappointed, scared, and grieving. His anger at Rick came from a place of pain and fear, not cruelty. From Carl’s perspective, Rick had basically stepped back from leadership. He stopped fighting and started “playing farmer” while they all knew the Governor was still a threat. Michonne was still going out looking for him, and Daryl was too in the beginning. But Rick? He just chose to stay behind the fences and hope nothing bad would happen. So when the prison fell and Judith was presumed dead, Carl saw that as Rick’s failure. In his eyes, Rick just waited for disaster instead of preventing it—and that cost them everything. But it wasn’t just about leadership. It was personal. Carl had always looked up to Rick—he was like Superman to him. Ever since Rick came back in season 1, Carl had believed in him. So this wasn’t just a leadership failure, it was the death of that heroic image. And that’s part of growing up—realizing your parents aren’t invincible, that they’re just human. That realization hurts, especially in a world as brutal as theirs. Carl’s behavior—going off alone, writing “I win” on the door, bragging about surviving a walker attack—wasn’t just posturing. It was him trying to convince himself he could do it alone. Because if Rick didn’t make it, Carl would be alone. He was preparing for that possibility. But when it looked like Rick had turned, Carl couldn’t pull the trigger. He sat down and prepared to let Rick bite him. That tells you everything—beneath all that bravado, Carl’s just a scared kid trying to cope. And we have to remember: this kid has been through hell. He had to shoot Shane—someone he saw as an uncle. He had to put down his own mother after she died giving birth. He didn’t stop the walker that killed Dale. He believes he lost Judith, who was born at the cost of his mom’s life. Now Rick might die, and Carl might have to shoot him too. That’s so much for a child to carry. The scene where he finally breaks down and says, “I’m scared,” is the dam bursting. That’s what all of this was leading to. All the anger, the accusations, the independence—it was a mask to protect himself from the overwhelming fear of being completely alone. So yeah, Carl’s speech wasn’t just about blaming Rick. It was about processing loss, facing trauma, and trying to survive in a world where everything he loves keeps being ripped away. And in the end, even with all that pain, he still couldn’t let go of his dad.

connie

"You had 110 oz, I'm about to get 115" 😭😭😭

connie

Kid been through hell, He went through all that punishment for killing that kid, wasn't allowed to shoot the Governor and the prison was lost anyways. He lost everyone on earth except his dad in that moment. His head wasn't on straight for real, and he was wrong. But more trauma won't fix trauma. But what will fix it is Carl Poppa (Please watch this Addison and Brandon, its a community favorite - enough that Chandler Riggs memorized it 😆) https://youtu.be/Q9aM9Ch97U8?si=E0cNZYpdbqa1DiqU

Usgosudi Wahya-Gihli

I understand Carl but at the same time, it’s not all up to Rick and it shouldn’t have to be. Yes he was the leader for a while but like Hershel said he deserved a break and not everything that went wrong is Rick’s fault. Rick wasn’t apart of the decision making for awhile and he truly did try his best. Yes Carl is a kid and grieving but I think he does look at his dad like Superman when Rick obviously isn’t.

Serena Valle

i thought getting beat into next week was just a saying😭
