2024-06-04 21:34:24 +0000 UTCRobb is a good person, and he's great at fighting a war, but he's still young (only 14 in the books!) and he really would benefit from taking his mother's advice more often than not - Cat warns him against trusting Theon so much, for example. And I think a lot of people blame Cat for things she didn't do, like losing Tyrion because of Lysa. The major mistake she makes as early on as episode 1 is trusting Littlefinger and her sister, but she's generally a much better player of the game than either Ned or Robb.

Besides the human part of wanting to save your family, as the now proclaimed King in the North, your sisters have a lot of political potential with alliance forming and all that. Sansa being married off to Joffrey is half of what got us here in the first place. It goes back to the conversation Varys and Tyrion were having about 'playing the game' and how Tyrion is good at it. Robb is just like his dad. He's noble, but he needs to start playing the game.

I don't know if Karstark can compare his two adult sons being killed going to war to a bunch of little kids being held hostage by people who don't have an issue with burning them alive or raping them. And Robb openly said he'd have happily exchanged Ned for Jaime, but not Sansa and Arya. By the time she freed Jaime her other option was letting him die so the Karstarks could feel avenged, even if that meant her daughters being killed in revenge by the Lannisters.
