In the 80s the feds wanted to target the war on drugs and gave cash incentives to police forces across the country to incarcerate more people for drug possession crimes. Paired with new minimum sentencing for felonies, even non violent and 1st time offenders, you've got people who enter the system at like 16 for dealing drugs to friends then stay in bc they lose all rights (no food stamps, no subsidized housing) for being a felon thanks to reclassification.

2024-06-02 02:27:25 +0000 UTCShouts out the call out about people being institutionalized I had a lot of family fight in Vietnam and then come back home and they were put through hell and were addicted to drugs and whatnot and they all ended up in prison and when they got out they’d say they would rather be in there and they’d go back. It was the scheduling of things the restrictions. It’s crazy how people can get so complacent.
