A little more background on the Cornetto Trilogy or Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy as it’s also called: from what I read about it, it appears that Cornetto was originally written into the script of Shaun of the Dead as a hangover cure for Shaun based on the writer/director’s own personal experience. At the after party for the film, they received free Cornetto. So when they were working on Hot Fuzz, they decided to throw more references to it in there in an attempt to get more free ice cream. The attempt failed. Later during an interview, when asked about the Cornetto, the director said that it was his own version of this film trilogy from France called the Three Colours film trilogy; which were a trilogy of films that were connected by certain themes rather than directly through plots and characters. So when he made Hot Fuzz, he decided they should make an additional film to sort of round out the trilogy and the final film is called The World’s End. Also, the ice cream flavors in these movies are certain color wrappers that match the theme that’s being parodied in each film. In Shaun of the Dead, it’s strawberry with a red label which symbolizes horror and blood, etc. Hot Fuzz has the original flavor which is a blue label to symbolize the police element in the movie. And finally The World’s End has a green, mint Cornetto wrapper shown but you’ll have to see what it’s parodying. Pretty goofy fun stuff that started as a joke. Also, these films not only share similar actors and that they are parodies, but they also have some serious and good storytelling elements. All three movies feature characters that have personal relationships, whether they be friendships or romantic or familial, that can use improvement or other things like that. Also each of the main characters have to deal with growing up in some way. For example, Shaun’s relationship with Liz, or Nicholas Angel’s dedication to his job getting in the way of his personal relationships. And when you see The World’s End, it’s very apparent immediately what the main character in that movie is dealing with. But yeah, some info. Glad you’ve been enjoying these so far.
